Dwarven Lord Under The Mountain
Sniper Tips:
1) Choose a weapon and stick with it: Regardless if its a DMR such as the G28/SR25/Draganov or a dedicated sniper rifle like the HTi, choose one and always use that rifle for sniping.
- each weapon is different and swapping between them really throws your aim off!
2) Learn your weapon: Different calibres, different muzzle velocities make a huge difference.
- Weapons such as the HTi, SRS, SR-1 are very large calibre weapons. Whilst they are great at "anti-material" work such as killing targets hiding behind corrugated metal and even stopping vehicles, they have a LOW muzzle velocity so bullet drop is significant over range. Rifles such as L115A3, M1891 are medium calibre but have very high muzzle velocity so whilst they're unlikely to get through that corrugated metal sheet at longer range (250+) bullet drop isn't as significant so landing the first shot is often far easier. DMR's such as the G28, M14, SR25 etc have low calibre rounds but high velocity. They're excellent choices for ranges within 250m and often have a large magazine capacity to enable multiple targets to be taken down fast. Ideal if you're covering a retreat from an alerted base for example!
A note on the SDV (Draganov). Whilst it holds a medium calibre round (7.62) the muzzle velocity isn't as high as similar chambered rifles like the L115 or M1891 so I've had difficulty gaining first shot kills at 300+ ranges, due to this the game is clearly put the rifle into the DMR category with the G28 etc. DMR's in general are a little bit redundant in the game to be honest. For ranges upto 200m most normal AR's such as M4, AK12/AK47 etc are fine with a x4 scope, on single shot for a first shot kill. DMR's tend to be best past 200m BUT once you get past those ranges you have to ask yourself why you're not using a bolt action sniper variant.
All details above are based on in-game findings and gameplay. Whilst the game has some semi-realism its clear that bullet drop for example isn't modelled realistically due to limitations of draw distances in the game engine. For example the L85A2 with x4 ACOG scope (in real life) has a "preferred" engagement range of 350m and is zero'd accordingly during operations. However, adding such realism in the game would mean actual spotting distances for true sniper rifles would have to consistently be a more realistic 500-800m. An impossibility for the game engine that stops fully rendering at <600m.
