Just reached level 30 and have a few questions:

1. I now see a symbol of some sort where there use to be your level number, what is that? Am I still gaining experience points?

2. My gear count is roughly around 600, how high can that go? Will I continue to get better loot?

3. Where can I find the some useful guides on "mods"? I'm still a bit confused by these, I constantly have 60/60 and not sure where I am getting them from, which ones to keep and which ones to equip.

4. I only have the "Capitol Building Stronghold" left to reach tier 2, will I then be able to selecta specialization and be notifies I have hit tier 2?

Thanks for your time all.

A screen shot would be helpful for us to better understand what you mean.

Progression goes from Lvl30 --> Stronghold 1 --> World Tier 2 (WT2) --> Stronghold 2 requirements (missions / Gear score) --> Stronghold 2 etc all the way up to WT4 at the moment.

You continue to get exp after lvl 30 and it goes towards new proficiency caches which have items in.

Your level will be replaced by Gear Score (GS).  Each World Tier allows you get get loot within a GS range.  WT4 currently allows loot up to just over GS450.

Which mods to keep is all part of the gearing up experience.  Gold items are great but it has been noticed that Purple items, whilst only having 2 attributes, generally have better rolls for their attributes.

For skill mods, depends on the build you are going for.  Low level skill mods require less skill power so if you are not going for a skill build then these maybe worth keeping.

I think at WT2 you get the specialisation but I am not 100% on that.  You get it from the desk just next to the guy you get the skills from in the Whitehouse.

Process goes:

Level 1-30, up to and including (officially) the starting factions Strongholds.

You can, as I did, level up to 30 without completing the main story, completing all the main missions, side missions etc. I even had one whole district unexplored!

However, until you complete the story missions including the starting factions Strongholds, Specialisations won't unlock for you. Its at this point you hit Tier 1 and you get them open to you. They're interchangable as you wish but only by using one will you gain XP to level a specialisation tech tree.

The tech trees are separate and the XP for them is not SHD tech so you need to complete missions, bounties etc to level them up AND the tech trees for them don't just focus on power for that weapon, for example you can increase Assault Rifle damage by 15% on one.

I'm not sure in my mind, if the way the system works once you hit Tier 1 is really as engrossing as it should be. Whilst the story changes I think the game forces you too rapidly up the Gear Score tree and into moving up Tiers. Something to expand in a review though.

Not entirely sure what you mean by gear count, as stated by RimBlock, currently, available gear score is only just above 450 (not sure about individual items, but I've seen people with a total score of 462).  If 600 is how many armor pieces/weapons you are carrying, you need to sort through them, get rid of anything you're not using.  I myself avoid looking at what I picked up until I've done a few missions/strongholds etc. then go through everything, equip any upgrades, and dismantle/sell everything else.

As for the mods, they drop from enemies just like any other piece of gear, though some need to be crafted if you have the blueprints.  You need to sort through those as well, first getting rid of all the lowest level mods.  For example, I'm currently having 450+ gear drop for me, so I'm getting rid of any mods below 440, had similar method while gearing up, picking a score level just below what's dropping and getting rid of anything lower.  If you're still full on mods after sorting, put some into your stash (like ones you don't expect to use any time soon, but may be good for another build you want to try in the future).

The best mods to use would all depend on what build you're trying to go for (i.e. what your play style is).  There's just a few builds out there right now as people haven't worked everything out yet, but there are some good ones out there.  You can find them by searching for "Division 2 builds".  For example, I'm using the LMG/SMG crit build, so equipping mods that help that (crit, armor, lmg damage bonus, etc.).  Let's me deal a ton of damage, and have a ton of armor to withstand more punishment, so I can hold the line, push up or flank more easily.  My friend plays more of a marksman role, so he'll have other mods (not sure what all of them are right now), not to mention will use different gear sets than I would.

Also need to keep in mind the talents on your gear, some require to have less than or more than a certain number in specific stat areas (offense, defense, skill power... the red, blue and yellow circle around your level on the inventory screen).  Like a certain talent may require you to have less than 4 total offense in order for it to be active.  Keep those in mind when adding mods, as they can affect this.  If it's a talent you don't care for, then not to worry, you can recalibrate your gear, putting a talent you want from one piece of gear onto another piece that you want to keep, thus swapping out unwanted talents for ones you do want.
