Noob question but ... if I preload one of my armaments (say the LMG I have in slot 2) with specialist ammunition, does the game remember? So I'm using my AR initially but hot-swap to my LMG that's already loaded with incendiary for example without having to force a reload mid-firefight?
You got a sort of timer and as long as that timer runs down all your bullets are explosive or incendiary iirc. That is why LMG get the most out of the special ammo timer. They have the most bullets per mag and some may even shoot the whole timer long only special ammo. As soon as the timer runs out the special effect is gone. So I'd say you can't preload a weapon and then switch the moment you need it. Would be cool though if that was possible.

I think they have limited usage, time and number. If you load them and don't use, they will expire.
Ok, guess I'll have to look into allocating either a macro key or just a hot key bind to these as bringing up the wheel menu...mid fire fight or even just before one kicks off is not always practical.

What about using "5" and "6" on the normal keyboard not the number block? That would be a nice place to reach and kinda make sense since you already switch your weapons there and your grenades too.

Is that a default? I've just been using the in-game tip saying I had to long press V....open the circular table etc.

Ultimately I'll bind to a spare mouse button, I've got an MMO mouse with ...enough...buttons.

Nah but I think you can define keys for each special ammo or for "drinking a soda" or other things you can choose from the "V" menue. So you could just assign those two keys with explosive and incendiary ammo and then you would not have to go the "press and hold V and chose with the mouse" way of selecting the ammo typ. Just take a look under the corresponding options tab ingame. I think you can even assign a single key for each grenade type if you want.

There's also an app called Battle Assistant that can be used to equip or use consumables from your phone. It's similar to the one used in Destiny and others.

As nice as it may sound but having to do that on my phone that constantly sucks its battery dry because the screen hast to be lit all the time...that would be a sub optimal solution for me. Not to mention how much more distracting it would be if you had to actually unlock your screen everytime you wanna use special ammo or consumables. So it is a modern solution that nicely fits into the every growing smartphone functionality but for me it's a double-edged sword.  <--Do you say that in english too when something has it's pros and cons?

I just remapped the keybinds to a couple of the spare mouse buttons. Works perfectly, I can hot swap ammunition types easily and instantly. I also did the same for grenade types so I can now pick and choose them as situation demands (no more accidentally throwing tear gas!!)
