SweetFX and The Division

We all know when Ubisoft and Massive Entertainment announced The Division back at E3 2013 the whole world was hyped and there even was a standing ovation to what they've shown there. Now everytime some new gameplay footage was shown the internet burst into flames and the earth got salty because people were complaining a whole lot about the graphical downgrade.

The last beta, a guy named Xenthor played around with SweetFX on pc. SweetFX is a small program that lets you adjust certain parameters, colors and effects to make the game look the way you like it. While it already looked quite gorgeous on pc AND consoles in my opinion, it certainly didn't look like it did on E3 2013. Now take a look at these 2 videos and screenshots further below.

I use SweetFX in many other PC games, love it. In fact, my Splinter Cell Let's Play on my channel uses it, for example.

I don't notice much difference in the video and screens aside from a bit more color saturation and higher contrast.

I noticed a lot less fog in the screenshots which makes it look a lot more crisp to me.

Sure it had a small downgrade, but I think most of the ones who are crying over the graphics being bad (which they are not) doesn't realise that the consoles can't handle much better graphics. Even if the game were to look like it did in the E3 there would propably be more bugs and everyone would need at least a 10k computer to run it and console would run it at 10-20 fps.

So there is problem no matter how you look at it, and I think they did what was best for everyone!

Anyway, I think I might give these SweetFX shaders a go once release gets here. I just need to figure out if there is any sort of lag involved

I just think people exaggerate when it comes to the importance of how it looks.

I'm fine about how it looks I just want to have a blast, like i believe most did in the beta

i played the PS4 and PC version and both look great (edge to PC of course) I just point and laugh at these people who scream "downgraded". they have no clue. Im from an age where pong was the best thing out, where ultima on commodore 64 looked great. so these graphics now a days are frickin beautiful. "downgraded" or not.   some of these gamers these days come off as self entitled little brats when they cry "they promised the game will look like it did 3 years ago" (which no dev ever does) "they are ripping us off" "they are scamming us" blah blah blah. its ridiculous in my opinion.

Was this game "downgrade", as they say? yes, it was, but it had to be for the reason you guys stated above. most of these people cant grasp the concept as to why they did. So its a waste of time even arguing with these people, so i just tell them. they aren't forcing you to buy the game, if you don't like it, don't buy it, and move on.

with all of this said, im wondering if my rig can handle the SweetFx Mod. I have a i7 4790K 4.0 ghz. 16 mb ram, and a GTX770 4gb, running on a 27"  2560 x1440 monitor. is there anyone more knowledgeable than me in this area  that can tell me if my rig can?

SweetFX should have almost 0 impact on your systems performance, so I think you're good to go. Maybe an investment later on for the gfx card (I highly recommend the Nvidia 970 GTX) but for now that should be good enough!

About those people complaining about downgraded graphics. I am from a generation later compared to you, my first game was Mario on the NES, and I feel the current generation of gamers want as much eye-candy as they can even if this means giving in on the gameplay aspect. In my opinion, gameplay comes first everything else is optional. Gameplay is what makes a game fun to begin with, not some bigger resolution on textures or whatever. As long as it looks acceptable I'm good.

It's funny though, most of these complainers were also crying about the 'bullet-sponginess' (is this even a word? :grin: ) of the AI. I don't like to generalize a group of people but the CoD generation certainly are vocal and a bunch of crybabies.  :laughing:  Sorry if I stepped on some toes

Basically good graphics don't equal good game. Some of my all time favorite games are side scrollers. I hardly noticed any downgrade, yeah maybe the puddles didn't reflect the sky scrapers, but damn was there amazing detail in everything. The snow especially. I remember seeing a car covered in snow and just thinking damn that looks incredible. I am very pleased with how the game looks, it's actually better than I expected.

yes, they do, but i am lucky, she mostly doesn't interfere with my gaming since she knows i like it. she has even bought me games, but she does frown when i spend too much on the hobby lol

haha I hear that, the girl I'm with I've only been seeing for about 2 months but I told her I'd be busy during the beta weekend playing a video game, she was super cool about it and thought it was funny. My ex woulda been such a bit*h about it haha

I told my girlfriend I'd be busy during beta and she was super cool about it! Now I told her the same would happen for a couple of days from March 8th and onwards, she was totally fine with it. I gotta put a ring on it at some point  :laughing:

if you go back and look at that video of the gun fight at the police station, that was the video clip that sold me on the game. the bullets going through both windows of the cop car with the player crouched down behind it, the bullets going through the billboard and the sun shining through the bullet holes. it looked incredible. didnt really notice those type of things in the beta, but it no way am i going to rip the devs for the little that had to do in order for this game to run smoothly. it still looks incredible and very happy as well with how the game turned out.

haha tie that one down! Any chick who's cool with being neglected for a couple days over a game is definitely a keeper.

I totally agree, I spent alot of time focusing on the detail of the game. Didn't find anything I didn't like as far as visuals go. Shot out tires on cars, shot out there windows, shot people through the windows. Had a blast doing it haha.

Yeah, she definitely is. Sweetest girl I've ever met, gonna keep her around for alongggg time. Nice on 7 years btw, longest I've ever been in is 3 years.
