Scavenging - is it worth it?

Rogue Hunter
The big question.... Is it really worth spending Phoenix credits to roll your high end hear to get high scavenging rates? I'm not so sure it is. I have currently got all high end gear and using mods I have got a scavenging rating of +159%. I have played for about 12hours now without a high end drop. Yesterday in the dark zone with a friend he managed to pick up 4 high end drops (2x Midas, 1x holster and 1x M1911A) all in the space of an hour and had all 4 drops in his dark zone inventory at the same time, (at which point he was taking a photo of his luck, only for us 2 to be jumped by 4 guys going rogue who stole 2 of his items, ?) his scavenging is at +109%. Has anyone else got experience of having a higher scavenging stat like myself and having no luck?

I'm having the same problem. Then some random guy comes in claiming HE drops with no scavenging. I am beginning to wonder why DZ hates me so much haha

It just doesn't make sense, I know that the drops are random but sure scavenging should sway the odds in your favour? Otherwise what is the point of scavenging actually being an attribute?

i have no clue..i usually team up with g1nt3r and he has a scavenging percentage way past 100%, mine is at 48% and i have gotten more HE drops than he has. im of the opinion that getting HE drops has nothing to do with your scavenging percentage, it has everything to do with just blind luck, and your scavenging percentage has more to do with the type of electronics, fabric, tools, and weapon parts you scavenge, if you get green, blue or gold ..but as i said, this is just my opinion

The description of the scavenging stat is "increases the chance of finding more and better items" are weapons and gear (HE drops) considered as gear or items? Can anyone confirm?

Pretty sure they're being classed as gear and hence Blazz's impression is correct meaning your scavenging % influences material collection quality from ... mining nodes.

This is an MMORPG and so very similar to games such as World of Warcraft in these aspects that these types of skills are ultimately the same. Just think of "Scavenging" as your Mining skill.

see, that's a very vague description. it doesn't mention high end drops at all. just "items". anyone can translate that to anything they want it to mean. just by playing the game, im leaning towards that to meaning the type of electronics, fabric, tools ,and weapons parts you get

lets just look at the definition of the word "scavenge"..it means to collect (useful items) by searching through refuse ..or To search through (a place or container) for useful items. ..

nothing in the definition of the word mean to get a loot drop from a boss LOL.

So, i think im on to something here :)

Yeah I think you have unearthed a dark UBI secret haha they don't correct people that want to roll scavenging thinking its high end percentage they just leave them to figure it out like I have had to; the hard way!

I gave up on my scavenging about a week ago, it felt nice deleting all those purple scavenging mods I didn't care about haha.

At this point I get far better stuff from crafting rather than random loot drops. However I would be interested to know if scavenging helps out with the rarity level of the materials we find as @Blazzen67said

I'm sure that scavenging helps out, but here's the thing.

We don't know what the exact percentages are, but let's say the odds of getting a HE drop are 0.2% So about 1 in 500 drops that could be HE, will be HE. What I mean by "could be" is that I don't think anyone other than named bosses drop HE loot. So 1 in 500 of them. Now if you run around with a scavenging of 100%, what did you do to your odds? You made the odds 2 in 500.

Is it worth it?

It is still a random roll and still not great odds.

I had about a 165% scavenging bonus setup when running the Bullet King glitch. I was the last one in my group to nab the Caducues. Most people I was playing with got it 2-3 times. I did not get it until the final night before the patch and I probably ran that thing for about 12 hours.

It's just not something I'm focusing on anymore. If there comes a time where there is another glitch like the Bullet King, I might run a scavenging setup again figuring it put the odds in your favor a little more, but I'm not sacrificing my build in normal play for scavenging.

So jealous! Can I ask where you got the Caducues?

I also have 137% Scavenging, and got 3 HE's last night, and have also gone nights without a HE drop at all.

It was when the Bullet King glitch was alive and well. I imagine other named enemies have a chance of dropping it too.

Honestly, the black market AK74 that you can get the blueprint for in the Base of Operations is better.

g1nt3r was doing the bullet king for 2 days and never got the caducues, and he had at least 150% in scavenging. i joined his group and got the gun within 5 minuets after joining him. I have a scavenging percentage in the 40's . so far i have gotten 5 HE drops with a 40 something percentage g1nt3r has gotten 1. this is why im lead to believe the scavenging percentage has nothing to do with a better chance for a HE drop...

I still think it helps your chances. The issue is that your chances are so low to begin with that even doubling or tripling your chances is still a very low percentage. You are almost rolling the same odds.

it would be nice to know exactly what the percentage is we start out with to know if this is true or not

I've heard it is really strong, that and the Vector

Right now I've been using Liberator/Socom M1A (Sometimes switch from Tenebrae due to talent roll on the M1A)/Para 249

The Vector is probably my favorite gun. If you get the Deadly Talent on it (26% more critical hit damage) and build your gear out to take advantage of critical hit chances and damage, you can really punish people with it. The MP5 (blueprint in DZ06) is a close second for me.

I like the black market AK74 way better than the Caduceus or Liberator. You can craft it as many times as your material allows and get the talents you want versus being stuck with the talents that the Liberator/Caduceus come with. It does more damage too.
