I know what the description says, however I have heard a thousand guesses. But, what does it really do?? Lets hear what the real answer is.

Way I’ve read it and from my experience in other MMO’s the way I see the skill applying is:

Positive % calculation to the randomly generated quality and number of MATERIALS scavenged from MATERIAL NODES (Electronics, Fabric, Weapon Parts).

It has NO effect on random LOOT drops. That % calculation on type,  quantity & number depends on player Level, number of players, difficulty of encounter (and likely lots of other hidden bonus’ and penalties such as current gear set etc).

Essentially it’s a skill increase buff to your “Mining” skill…the materials nodes being equivalent to Ore mining points in other MMO’s.

My speculation of course but it makes the most sense.

im with g1nt3r, with loot drops, it does absolutely nothing...in the very beginning i had a very high scavenging percentage...rarely got anything good if at all. since then i have ignored that stat, currently have a 5% scavenging, and my luck with drops is better, but not by much

i share quinch1199 thoughts with it pertaining to the materials you scavenge in containers and it has nothing to do with loot drops from bosses

If you want a higher % chance of picking up Gold division tech as well as all the other HE materials, then a high scavenging % works great. If you want a higher % chance of HE loot drops, then hope and pray.

^Essentially this^.

It increases the odds of finding higher tier materials in nodes. The better your scav %, the higher the chance that a green you would normally find becomes a blue, and a blue becomes a yellow. It's scavenging, not enemy pocket rifling.

As to the gear drops, you'll only find drops in a range above and below your current GS. To find better drops, you must increase your GS to fall within the range of the drop level you desire, and then farm the drops within an area commensurate to the level, on an enemy capable of dropping that level that you wish to acquire as well.

You must understand, however, that drop tiers have a rarity built into the RNG, where tier ones drop commonly, tier twos drop rarely, and tier threes drop ultra rarely. The only pieces outside of this are gear set pieces, which drop rarely in place of HE to begin with, but then also apply a 2nd RNG to drop commonly at tier one, ultra rare at tier two, and never at tier 3 outside of challenge mode incursion.

"Scavenging" loads the dice in your favour when doing your two hourly run around to gather materials.

For HE drops.... virgin sacrifices to RNGeesus are required.

Personally... I've had my scavenging stat at 186% and 109%.  I feel like there is a significant difference as far as noticing that I've definitely been getting lesser quality drops. I haven't changed my farming technique, DZ routes or anything else. Re-Calibrated my Strikers knee pads to get a 94% boost. Probably going to have to replay a few lower level missions on hard to get it back up.
