NEW 1.3 Five piece Sentry Call Build

Here is my newest build in 1.3, it is a five piece sentry with Reckless chest piece.

For all of 1.2 I ran a low DPS Tanktician.

Up until last week in 1.3 I ran a low DPS Reclaimer with 45ok Toughness and 50k Skill Power.  This build still best matches my play style.

I just completed this Sentry build with 244 Marksman DPS, 276 SMG DPS and 223 SASG DPS.  I am using a reckless chest piece with 410k Toughness and 30k Skill Power.

I also run with Vigorous Chest which lowers DPS by 30k on each weapon but increases Toughness to 423k

I am pretty excited about this build but am new to dPS lol. Thoughts and advice welcome.

Since 1.3, DPS has become an inflated and less useful number, which is why both of my builds are primarily toughness builds with enough firearms to unlock my talents and the rest put into electronics and skills.  For weapons, then, I just look at their talents, base DMG, and the weapon's class bonus to determine which ones that I use.

Cool.  So what should I be looking to adjust or change completely?

My first question is why the switch from Tanktician to a sentry-DPS build?  Did you not like running the toughness-skill type build of the Tanktician or was it something else?  I personally like to be able to take a lot of damage (hence the high toughness), but I'm beginning to realize that being able to keep my skills running is important too.

I'm pretty sure it was on this forum that someone basically said you can't deal DPS if you're dead.  For me, if I can't eat some lead, I tend to get chewed up since I'm not the best shot.  I'm a casual and I don't run the metas, because I don't have the same skill level as the min-maxers.  I take everything I see and read and see what works for me.

I'll make a second post with how my toons are built so you can see what I run.

My main uses overdose, pulse or Smart Cover and survivor link.  I ran the same on any alt until I got the vigorous chest, now she runs booster shot, Smart Cover, and survivor link, since she gets the overheal when she pops booster shot (2-for-1 deal).

Main is designed for more cover and part tank work.  This is my more traditional character.  I'll tend to use him to help draw some fire, but he could use some more toughness (like 550k+) to tank a little better in post-1.3.  I'm trying to get him 2 more pieces of AB so I can rock the MK16 with 6 talents: swift, deadly, fierce, vicious, brutal, and destructive.  I don't have them listed, but I have an MP5 and a PP-19 that would back up my ARs when I run out of ammo.

My alt was created to mimic the NPC shotty rushers.  I use cover and run up to get up close and personal and then I just start pumping out rounds.  I'd like to get some more skill power to give the booster shot more kick and to reload skills faster, but hitting like 500k toughness wouldn't be bad either.

Thanks for the info.  I still default to my Reclaimer.  It is typically 4 piece Reclaimer with 2 piece Final Measure although I also run it with vigorous chest and savage gloves because I too love the Booster / Overdose combo

Primary DPS 135k

Toughness 450k

Skill Power 51k

Toughness and Skill power have always been my focus and I didn't like waiting for the Tactician skills to buff so I went heavy skill on the reclaimer.

With the 100% healing speed on my support station it's awesome but the Smart Cover is also incredible.

Being able to keep everyone alive and buff the team damage output with consumables is also fantastic.

I built the Sentry because I've never had a damage dealer and simply wanted one.  As I'm new to that build I wanted to try my hand at it and see if I could build a good one.

* my aim sucks but is improving

I like your builds.  Well thought out.  I hate that my Reclaimer doesn't have gun talents unlocked.

I'm kind of the same.  I'm not terrible but laser accurate either.  DPS is based on all of your shots hitting the target and since that's not me, I don't concern myself with DPS as much.  One of the other benefits I'm looking at for my main is the +100% health regen when I get my 3rd piece of AB.  I'll be able to heal over 10k/sec and basically cut the time it takes to fully heal from almost dead down to 10 sec from 20.

Lol.  I've argued the same, if you miss everything DPS is zero.  That health regen would be awesome.  If you were in a reclaimer's support station it'd be lightening fast.

Another way to play with DPS and your ability ot hit is with the Rate of Fire mod.

DPS is based on everything hitting, as @DeadSockPuppet mentioned.  What is the best way for more bullets to hit...

  1. Sustained fire (more recoil that builds and builds).
  2. Faster RoF unloaded in shore bursts in order to maintain stability without reducing bullet count.
This is more for midrange combat (AR, MG) but I like option 2 best.  The thing is that you have to be very disciplined as you will chew through ammo and if you do not come off the trigger for burst fire, the recoil will be significantly worse as you are throwing more lead in a shorter space of time.

@WarKingDread, I had a buld very much like your 517 toughness build but found time to kill was just too high.  I could handle 3-4 shotgun blasts at close range but could not often take down the shotgunner before they fired for a 5th time (excluding any other fire incoming).  By going to the Sentry build I now have, I can take two sniper / shotgunner hits but can kill a shotgunner in under a mag of my M4 which, with RoF mod, is fairly quick.  Two shotgunners coming in hard are still a problem without support.  I like my build but am restricted by my lonestar mask (great stat plus high skill power).  If I could get a Sentries call mask with both then it would give me a lot more latitude to experiment with savage gloves etc.

TBH, better to hold off building until 1.4 drops and we see what the landscape seems like once the dust settles.

@RimBlock you should try the LVOA-C if you like the M4.  I find it can be just as fast and it's more accurate and hits harder than the M4 IMO.   I also like the tach mk16, which is slower but I find it laser accurate w/o any ROF mods.

The MK16 I have not tried.  I must give it a go if I can find a good one.

I have been running with LVOA-Cs but this lightweight M4 I got was better for damage and talents than both the LOVA-Cs I have.  I did like the LVOA-Cs for their accuracy and stability.  The lightweight M4 is a little less stable but still pretty good if you get a good one.

I loved the M4 with the suppressor as soon as I heard it in this game and used it most of the time working up to level 30.  Shame the suppressor has no significant use in Endgame.  I also love the SVD for its sound.  The M1A I have does 50% more base damage per shot than my best SVD though so really hard to justify the SVD.  The SVD also has blind on it which I quite like but sickness in UG applies the effect to my agent constantly and until Massive fix that, it is pretty unusable there.

These are the ARs my main is running:

204 LVOA-C - swift/deadly/fierce
204 Tactical MK 16 - vicious/brutal/destructive

Yeah, they're only 204s, but the talents are fantastic.  This is a case of I haven't found 229s that have the same talents so I keep using them.

Ultimately, I'm looking to get some more AB pieces so I can use the mk16 with the 6 talents.
