Does Hunter's Faith suck as much as it sounds like it sucks?

The 4th perk of the Hunter's Faith gear set reads

Every time you land a shot depending on the distance to the target, it will give you Damage Resistance against enemy weapon damage – you can go above 75% Damage Mitigation. The additional armor disappears after one bullet hits you.

You get damage resistance that disappears the moment you get shot once. So it is only worthwhile against flame throwers, grenades, and sticky bombs?

Am I missing something to that?

I think the value in it is more for when you're sniping against other snipers in-game, or far off enemies.  The idea being that you're supposed to be in an "overwatch" kind of role where you're not going to get hit.... and if you do get hit, you at least have the chance to react, move, and fend off whoever's attacking.  In my mind, it's meant for the player that's going to hang back and provide sniper support for your team while giving you the opportunity to react to any stray bullets that come your way without taking much damage.

On the flipside, I would assume also that if you're playing with a more fast-paced weapon, it should (if it acts as it reads) be providing you a damage buff every time you're hitting someone, and so in theory you'll still be taking less damage from whoever's hitting you because the buff will be on/off/on/off/on/off/on/off.  Does that make sense?

Okay, that is pretty much what I was thinking. It has a little bit of value in PVE (still not much in my opinion), but sounds pretty worthless in PVP.

And as far as the on/off/on/off thing it says it depends on the distance to the target (without any specifics). At closer range, it might not actually work like that. It might do nothing up close when you hit someone.

I would venture to say it is definitely a PVE-Sniper Role.  PVP's value would only be if, again; you were fighting from a far off distance while your group was covering up closer.  I'm sure the up-close resistance buff is minimal, but it probably would at least be something.. which in the numbers game always makes a difference somewhere!  :)  Still, I agree; unless you're primarily a Sniper build through-and-through, then this probably wouldn't be the route to go.  Personally, I believe I'll be going 3/3 with Sentry's Call and Hunter's Faith rather than going full on any Gear Set.  But I'm also very much a Sniper for the group I run with.  :)

Okay, so it is even more underwhelming.

For a 4th piece bonus, I want something that is going to do a little more than partially protect me from one bullet.

Depending on your current armor and range of shot, as a sniper, you can become nearly immune to npc sniper fire. For the class it's made for, it's great...using it for other roles however will suck massively, but that's intended.
