Dark Zone Stories

It's not cheap thrills. It's whoever is in the way gets laced thrills. If it's a low level so be it. If it's a High level, so be it. We don't discriminate.

Just did a solo run in the DZ (Level 29), heard explosions and all that clusterfudge and I decided to see what's up after I extracted my loots.

Found some people around struggling against NPC. So I helped and went off. Then came across another struggling players, went off again. Then saw an Extraction Zone blinking, went there and I met the previous fellas and I backed them up. After a while, a Supply Drop initiated nearby. I walked towards it and saw these players I saw earlier and few others together fighting off the enemies. In the end, I was the one who got to the box first, but I just let one of these guys claim the Supply Drop. I thought the items would be worthless anyway. After this we went off on our way and gone.

What a nice moment. Pure strangers, 100% teamwork.

So, on to current stories.

We had a run in with a group of rogues.  I was with some one else and we were doing some AI boss runs when we came across a group who gunned us down.  Ok, fine, no big deal so we respawned and moved to another area.  A few minutes later the same group shows up and guns us down again.  Hmmm, ok, not so great but we pick up and move on again.  My team mate goes out of the Safehouse and immediately gets attacked.  I go out the side door and see one of the same group wailing on him again so I get in close and unload a full clip (61) from my MP5 in to his side.  He goes down 2/3 of his health and then it just pops up again.  Now I didn't see any health pack animation from him and no health stations were around so it seemed quite strange.  Then I do another half mag in to him before he kills me.  Knock him down by 1/3 and within a sec or two it jumps right back up again.... I am not sure if other players see the health pack animation when you use one.  We have no idea how they kept finding us so easily, especially after we should have changed phases unless for some reason the logout did not flip servers for some reason.  We still got some gold and a few other bits out so not a complete loss.  We actually got two crates as well but they just had purples in ...... Thought they were meant to be good item drops ??.  Fighting though the AI and other players for purples just seems like a massive waste of time and effort.

At this point with them just hanging around outside the safe house, We decided to try jumping phases.  I fully logged out of the game and then back in.  I pulled my team mate over to me in my phase and we went outside and were fine.  We continued up and just started attacking some other AI when the same group came up behind us and cut us down again.   I had hit level 50 and now had been knocked back under it again.  Clearly these guys were just in to chasing us so we went back to doing some challenging hard and missions.  Unfortunately nothing decent came out of the drops from those though.

Not the best of times but was still ok.  I am just under lvl 50 so can jump up again fairly easily next time and then get access to the BPs.  Of course then I have to farm the DZ cash in order to afford them  :8_laughing: .

I am looking forward to the 1.2 patch to see what the shakeup brings.

The gap IS getting smaller soon, we'll see how it pans out.

I understand your view with limited time to play casually, but an online rpg of any variety stretches the abilities of those players thin as is. It's hard to make a game that caters to both crowds in this genre.

No stat levels really come to mind. You could run an electronics build and destroy most players in the DZ, top end or not.

Yeah, I am...thanks for noticing :1_grinning: It's just a result of living here though lmao
Yep we will so what happens after 1.2.

I think my concern with DZs pegged to Gear tiers is that there may be two few players on each tiers in various timezones.   As it is I have never seen large numbers of players descend on rogues in my timezone.   It maybe that Asia tends to have a culture of avoidance of conflict.  As @Oh. daesu mentioned, people tend to scatter and leave.  Presumably player to AI doesn't count in that though  :10_wink: .

An electronics build you say  :1_grinning: .  Mine is sniper support which is probably why it does so badly up close when rogues pounce.  I do like to go for something a little different so may look in to that.  Thanks.

Absolutely. One BFB sticky bomb can decimate a 4 man group of rogues if you get them all together. Most players don't have enough, or in a lot of cases any, exotic damage resilience.

Ok, back on with the stories.

Just a couple from last night.....

Do you need a lift ?

So two of us did the hard dailies pretty easily (well I went down after not paying any real attention and missed spotting a shotgunner coming from the side but the rest was good). So then we went on to Lexington and grabbed two others.

I have moved back to the M44 and picked up a burst fire MP5 (140 DPS modded) from the previous day somewhere and whilst is has only a GS of 163 it is quite a bit better than the best of 4 rolls with the MP5 GS185 BP so I was giving that a whirl.  All went well until we got to the roof top and just got chopped down over time by the heavy gunners. After a couple of attempts, the 4th person left and we were down to only 3, the 3rd being around a GS of 178.  After a bit of playing around we found we could hold out in the lift area where we came up and peck away at the MGs using support stations to try and keep us all alive.  This was ok but very slow as none of our weapons were doing significant damage to them but on occasion, if someone died and when we tried to heal them from in the lift it would close the doors and go down.  Now this seemed to be an ok way to get out of the fight to heal until we also discovered on coming back up, the gunners armour had fully replenished  :12_slight_smile: .

It was comical though, coming to revive someone and them seeing the lift doors shut and me end up down stairs cursing away.   I think I went up and down in the lift 3 or so times in a row trying to revive someone under a rain of heavy gun fire from a gunner.  We ultimately gave up and restarted as the three of us were very unlikely to complete the mission but it was still pretty good fun.  We came out and grouped with two others (our other addition had left by that time) and pretty much walked through it.  The difference their equipment / builds were from the others meant they could draw the fire and so I could use the sniper aspect of my build a lot more effectively with a little room and take down the AI quite a bit easier.

Peek - a - boo, I see you.

After doing the challenges we went in to the DZ, starting low with the intention to work up, and were fairly surprised that the AI were pretty much everywhere we came across.  We took a few out, I got back past lvl 50, and moved in to a Div tech building which the two of us cleared.  I noticed there was a player outside, further down the street but as I had the hiding ping equipped presumed he could not see us.  It appears I was wrong.  We grabbed the loot and were just looking for the DZ check when, boom, down.....  Killed by "ChineseDaddy[something or other]".  There was no one else in the building and the two of us were not on the same floor.  The guy just shot through the building and killed us.

We respawned and decided not to bother going around that area.  Whilst cutting through a plaza with some LMB guarding it, after clearing them suddenly.... dead..... same person shooting through walls.  No way they could have killed both of us standing apart at the same time from pretty much any position.  At that time I chalked this up to seeing my first undeniable hacker.

Luckily we didn't jump server but just moved up the map and whilst running around found a player "Katarina[something]" had joined our group (probably via my team mate).  We then proceeded to cruse around and kill some AI and get the drops and managed to extract pretty successfully.  We parted ways with a rather masculine sounding Katarina, having found another running team mate for the future (hopefully), and came out for the night.  Haul was disappointing again.  One piece of 185 equipment, a number of 163 guns and some mods / weapon mods.  Nothing better than what I had (3 golds were extracted from The Pit so was quite surprised at their 'quality').  Disassembling allowed me to craft another MP5 and M44 but both had pretty bad scores.

Best part of the night was being able to purchase my first gear set BP and so got some Striker knee pads and was able to craft on the spot.  They are ok but I will have to grab a shed load of more materials to try and get better rolls.  They will do for now.

Manhunt to All out war!

So yesterday after completing the dailies me and 2 friends decided to do some farming in the dark zone. having recently completed the striker gear set i was feeling pretty confident that i could take out level 32 yellows and possibly a few rogues. We are farming making my way through DZ 1-3. We notice the odd manhunt going and and even decide to join one for a while chasing down a group of 4 rogues throughout the dark zone. Im convinced they all had stamina mods up or were related to Usain Bolt as after popping 2 survivor links we were unable to catch them. By this time a good few people had joined the Manhunt. Just after their timer ran out supply dros started kicking in and the bulk of the players on the manhunt now started running towards the supply crates. After the four supply drops are complete and some lucky shooting by myself we get some gear and make our way to the nearest extraction point.

Now i feel like i need to set the scene to really do this sorry justice. All the players who had taken part in the manhunt now joined the hunt for supply drops. All said players then made their way to nearest extraction point. There must be at least 10-15 players in this server all at the extraction point in addition to me and my 2 friends. All of  a sudden like a Stephen King film the tension sets in.. everybody at the extraction point, everyone has gear..noone has called the extraction....i can hear what sounds like the long arm of a clock ticking...tick...tock...tension O'Clock.

Ok scene set i say to my friend as we are in  a party this feels a bit heavy! so i do what any sane person would do in that instance i call the extraction in...within seconds i feel gunshots from behind, i turn around to see its a turret and a Riker, (phew)  i quickly dispatch both. As i turn around from where i am, simultaneously i hear my friend say the words "they've all gone rogue" as i turn every player at the extraction point has gone rogue and it is all out warfare, its like a battle royal. I think my map literally went  red  with the amount of rogues . My only saving grace was  i was possibly 2m away from the extraction point after killing that Riker.  As bullets spray from left to right and i see people getting downed i grab as much gold gear i can and scram! i leg it from DZ2 in record time. I meet up with my friends later and extract at another extraction point. However im still getting flashbacks of sea of rogues. It felt like a that episode of GOT when you see the "Whitewalkers"

Dramatic i know but you had to be there.

A few weeks ago, I had a pretty weird experience.  I was playing with a group of three other random players in the level 14 bracket with my alt character, and we came down a street to see about 20 players hanging out in a sort of impromptu street party.  People were standing on cars, standing in the street, and milling about, then everyone started doing jumping jacks in a circle.  I joined in and captured a video of the weirdest thing I had seen in the DZ until that point.  About 30 seconds later, it had devolved into a battle royale, but for a brief moment, it was a pretty special little non-violent island in what is typically a sea of murder.

So yesterday in the dz 201+ bracket was in a group with 2 others and collecting a lot of gear set items and sealed caches. One of our guys goes down from NPC fire so we are watching his items. Another agent takes them and flees being the squad that we are didn't like this, I followed him and we gunned him down to get our friends items back for him when he respawned. Down to a rouge timer of 20 seconds we come under fire from agents and scatter. I found myself like an idiot running into a dead end dz entrance area. With only one car as cover I waited my impending death. To my surprise only one agent has chased me all the way here. We began exchanging bullets and attacking each other in a circle around this car, both our survivors burnt out we trade blows for a good 5 mins with just the 2 of us 1 on 1. After me nearly killing him for him to use a medikit and nearly kill me we hit the point where I have one medikit left and he has none. Wise choice, he admits he won't make it and runs off. I let him go with a smile and a nod for such a good battle. I sit back behind my car and allow my timer to run down to clear rogue. My worthy opponent then returned to see me still at the car and scene of the battle. Now not rogue we stand in front of each other, me half expecting another battle but we both stop and start applauding each other at the same time. A smile on my face I leave to meet back up with my squad. Good times. Our paths may one day cross again ........

...and one more. Most fun I had all night....stopping an angry mob from taking my squadies out. Just because you can't wreck the whole mob doesn't mean you can't keep your squad alive:

I was doing DZ (201+) matchmaking and 4 guys were put in my team. We entered the DZ and saw 3 Manhunts.

2 guys being rambos and died and still being hard-heads. 1 guy left. Meanwhile, I and another guy were fighting Elites off for the ISAC.

1 of the Rambos joined our fight. We got the place cleaned up, drops were everywhere like candy rain thanks to me and especially that guy (let's call this guy Andy).

Those 3 Manhunts from earlier for some reason had their Rogue status cleared. And of course, what can I expect from these people? They're there only to loot and then kill us, of course. But since I remembered their names, I sneaked my way to the exit, yet my teammates still walking  around the area, even went close to those ex-Manhunts as if they're totally not hostile.

I didn't want to leave Andy behind, of course. So I waited for him and after I got his attention, we moved out. But this Rambo guy attracted the ex-Manhunts out and made them eventually catch up with us. So I said 'F*ck it' and ran away. And guess what? Yes, that Rambo guy got gangbanged immediately by those ex-Manhunts-now-Rogues - again. It's going to be a waste of time anyway, so I ejected the disc and went off.

TLDR: Guys, when there is/are Rogue players, please goddamn remember their name. You don't exactly have to remember as in completely memorize complicated names. Just remember the first 5 letters or the catchiest part of the name or the pattern of the name. Then no matter if they are Clean now, next time you see them, MOVE! Especially when you know they have outgunned and outmanned you.

I just had a fun one right up against tonight's server shutdown.  I had about 5 minutes to go and thought maybe I'd squeeze a little more rank and credits out of the evening, and when I was fast traveling toward the DZ1 west checkpoint, I saw that there was a very close drop happening, so I decided to go for it.  I popped survivor link and went for it, only to get a little too aggressive and get downed and dead.  I ran back to the drop zone with about 90 seconds to go, and was joined by a trio of non-hostile agents, and instead of a bullet in the back, I got an invite, which I accepted.  We quickly dispatched the guards around the box, and I secured the drop for my new group.  We ran to the extraction to get the boss loot extracted, and by the time the chopper arrived, the server maintenance was scheduled to begin before the extraction timer would expire.  Two of us decided to risk it and were able to get our loot secured and ran for the exit.  The server went dark just as I was trying to enter the checkpoint.

That was a pretty fun 5 minutes.  I might hit those guys up once the servers are back tomorrow.

So.

I'm in the Dark Zone (solo, as always)...I call for an extraction...and voila, another player shows up.  Having no interest in fighting for loot I start to leave--until I notice he's in a downstate.  Instinctively, being the non-rogue I am, I start heading over to revive him.  I don't make it in time, and while collecting loot from NPCs inadvertently pick up his stuff as well.  Oops.  Ah well, it happens, and I don't usually fault people when they pick up my stuff...it IS just lying there in the street like all the other loot.

Two minutes later I'm in a shootout with NPCs when another player starts healing me.  Nice of them, but me and my crippling social anxiety need to haul ass out of there...thing is, I never noticed it was the same player who's stuff I had just picked up.

Another two minutes, and I'm in another shootout with NPCs.  Before long, a rogue starts shooting me--same guy! Keep in mind, I didn't realize this was the same dude until after I replayed my Twitch stream.  At the time I thought it was just some random noob looking to start trouble.  I ran away, hoping to give him a chance to see I wasn't easily killed, and rounded a corner.  He followed, and I took him out as he came around.

To be honest, I feel bad.  I took the guy's dropped stuff and he did start healing me...maybe he wanted to partner up in the hopes of getting it back?  Don't know.  Anyhoo, sorry player, we socially anxious solos gotta survive!

My team decided to run DZ for funds and levels. Probably we were just lucky. Rogues were around, but we managed to always steer clear from them.

Alongside with the funds and EXP, we brought something home as well. One of them was MIDAS.

Before we ended our session, a supply drop was dropping nearby. We cleared the enemies and yet another group of players shamelessly took it from us, in front of us. My friend was annoyed, but I said to just let them pick it. Most likely they only get a couple of purple trash anyway.

So far his game has been totally awesome just a lil confused since the update o haven't been able to play with my friends is anyone else having prove it comes up as player mich match

Dark zone gear score bracket has been introduced mate so if you are under 200 gear score and your friends are over 200gs then you will be mismatched in terms of  dark zone bracket. You can still enter the 200+ bracket if you are below GS 200 but it's not wise

Why...whywhywhy?  I just don't get it.

I'm making my usual DT farming run from DZ03 to DZ06 when I pass by another solo.  I keep running as I usually do to show I pose no threat...but keep checking over my shoulder just the same.  Sure enough, this solo dude starts following.  I keep going, ignoring him, until he starts poppin me in the back.  Normally I just run, but I'm sick of this crap.  I go out a window, stand on some scaffolding, and wait for him to come out.

Honestly, I hate to brag, but I frickin melted this dude!  Player, if you're on here, what the hell???  I wasn't carrying any gear, I did absolutely nothing to you, and worst of all, you weren't even built for the DZ!
