The definition of the word 'scavenge"

the definition of the word "scavenge" is : a. To collect (useful items) by searching through refuse

b, To search through (a place or container) for useful items

No where in that definition does it mean to get a better chance for a High end weapon/gear for killing a boss. so, in my opinion, your scavenging percentage has absolutely nothing to do with giving a player a better chance to get a high end drop from a boss..that is more luck than anything else. I think your scavenging percentage has to do with what type of weapon parts, fabric, tools, and electronics you get. this would also explain why some people with very low scavenging percentages get high end drops more than some players with very high percentages in scavenging

Now some of you will say "well blazzen67, when you kill a boss, you are "scavenging" his corps, therefore, the percentage does have something to do with your chances". i would say that isn't necessarily true. when you kill a boss, you aren't searching his body to see what he may have hidden on his body, he drops loot on the ground, therefore you aren't scavenging anything, you are merely picking up what he dropped on the ground when he died.

So, this is my opinion. Massive can come on at any time and say im completely wrong. but as it stands now. I am sticking with this opinion :)..feel free to add a comment to discuss this further

(*disclaimer* this is by no means fact. this is just my opinion based on no facts what so ever)

Nice to see you open up a topic about this theory mate as I am in agreement with it! Spent time, pheonix credits and energy to roll scavenging into my high end gear set up and what you have said makes sense to me! I hope massive can make a comment about this topic and confirm it? Do massive check this forum? (Sorry new to forums)

thank you :) ..i have been wondering about this for some time now. especially when i see my friends get no gold drops having very high scavenging percentage and me getting good gold drops having a very low percentage. would be nice if someone associated with massive did check this forum out and give an opinion. it would be nice for them at the very least give an explanation to what your scavenging percentage does actually help in game.

You know my opinion Blazz from my .. very ... limited understanding so far of the game mechanic. Everything I've experienced and seen indicates that the Scavenge skill is equal to a Mining skill in fantasy MMORPG's (and I think a good way of explaining it).

The % increase in your Scavenge skill influences the quality of the MATERIALS collected from available Nodes (fabric, Tools, Weapon parts, Electronic). It increases the chances of receiving higher QUALITY materials.

I do, however, believe there is buried somewhere a factor that influences spawn drop quality and type. This may be linked just to difficulty level or have a deeper balancing metric embedded that combines difficulty, party numbers, location/type of enemy etc. We're not yet at the stage of the game as we are in something line World of Warcraft where we can say a certain boss has a set % of dropping a certain short range of loot of a certain quality.

Even in WoW you have players running instances many multiple times to try and trigger the chance of the loot they want being dropped.

To me The Division is very similar in this aspect. It will only be through time and study, that we will get a better picture of how, when and what factors dictate loot drops. To my way of thinking, with a new game, very few guides, even more speculation, we have a mix of players from MMORPG backgrounds (like myself) enjoying their first real experiences of a "shooter game" and enjoying the similarities they're familiar with and players more familiar with the Tom Clancey franchises and shooter games in general who, whilst enjoying the shooting side, are struggling with the buried MMORPG concepts in the game.

I am going to check out the Ubisoft support page and try dropping an email and enquire about it, worth a try! If I hear anything back from them I will post it up on here to share it with you guys!

blazzen, you're one of the luckiest SOB's I've ever had the pleasure to game with haha.
HAHAHA i know right :) this is why i believe in my theory. i have a shitty scavenging percentage and yet i get High end drops..you have a very high percentage and you get nothing lol...when we team together..i almost feel bad that i get them and you dont....almost HAHA

I'd be interested in seeing what they say for sure

I have to agree with the getting HE materials theory. I had a low scavenging stat and was getting no HE drops. I did some work and boosted it up to 155%, still no HE drops. What I was getting now from this boosted scavenging stat was HE gold division tech left and right.
