Rainbow Six: Patriots trailer

Seeing we're Clancy fans here I was wondering if anyone was ever interested in getting to play the Rainbow Six: Patriots game that never got released.

Here's what I know about Patriots from some compiled reading I did. Many people have said this game was a political statement and one that is frighteningly accurate. David Sears was the creative lead of this game and he wanted to tell the story of how corrupt the financial systems within America are. He personally lost all of his 401k and other retirement vehicles in 2008 when the great recession took hold of the country. He knew that many others had experienced exactly what he did and how they would have to pick up the pieces and hope to carry on in the future. Ergo he set forth to create a story about what would happen if a fringe group of Americans decided to take revenge on not just the institutions but the very people who were responsible for destroying millions of American's nest egg, forcing them to have their homes foreclosed on, their families thrown out in the street, all while bankers took a massive bailout from the US government and CEO's received their millions in bonuses per contractual obligation.

At the time the game was being developed for last gen consoles and PC, it was said that production was temporarily haulted so that development for the new consoles can begin. However as we all know this never happened. From the few snippets we've seen here on youtube the story was going to be an incredible one with a truly profound statement being made. When all the dust settled David Sears was released of his obligations of creating this game from Ubisoft and no longer had a job at the company. As many have said, this may have been one of the truest stories in gaming ever told and I'm sure that certain high ups within Ubisoft were absolutely petrified to release it despite any public statements they made regarding Rainbow Six Siege being the best option to develop at this time. I think myself along with many others believe that the content of this subject matter was the sole reason the project was scrapped and with the current political landscape of the country we see today, they probably didn't want to be held liable for any possible issues that may have resulted if this was ever released. That being said I think their fears were completely unfounded and nothing of the sort would have ever taken place, at least not by people who simply played Patriots.

At least that's my take on it from everything I've read. It's a lot of reading between the lines and coming to logical conclusions but of course at the end of the day we'll never know truly know the reasons as to why this never saw the light of day. What's funny is they said they created Siege for it's next-gen experience. LoL, that game is simply call of duty in a house.

Hey Kaliber,

This is actually very interesting, seeing as I never have even heard of this before. The trailer almost reminds me of Payday: The Heist. Almost the same concept.

I defiantly think the politics of the game played a part in it's cancellation. As you've explained, " they probably didn't want to be held liable for any possible issues that may have resulted if this was ever released.". Of course they didn't. No company would take the risk of major backlash for a product they created. Not any major company anyways.

Thanks for posting about this. Pretty intriguing stuff.

Yeah I thought it was pretty incredible to just cancel all production of it. I think it would have been a hallmark of story telling for the rainbow six franchise. What I found ridiculous was that they decided to make more or less a mindless shooter (Siege) instead of telling a great story that actually has historical significance. You don't hear much if anything about online these days because of how old it is at this point, but just, wow. I hate when I see a game get scrapped that has so much potential to be great but the powers that be don't feel the same way. We've all see just absolutely horrible titles released to the public that have no story, bad gameplay, horrible controls, etc. Then we have the gems that just never see the light of day. I guess that's where this one will remain.

Yeah, the guys in my clan are huge TX and R6 fans and were really looking forward to this game.  It probably would have had a huge following if it came out.  I was the only one that got into Siege (love the game) and most of our PS4 side got into the Division, the XB1 side are so enamored with COD that the fanboys can't give any other shooter more than 5 min before its back to grinding cock of duty.

Haha man I despise the CoD franchise. I think it brings out the absolute worst in the gaming community, not to mention the 8 year olds who are insistent on how they banged everybody's mom last night.

I played  COD exclusively until about 3 years ago when everyone was getting ready for the new consoles.  Didn't buy it then because I went from 360 to PS4 and didn't want a game that wouldn't transfer.  I got BLOPS3 for Zombie mode, but my friends had moved on from it by Xmas so I haven't even opened the game.  I'll probably throw it in at some point to remind myself why I stopped playing them.

+1.

The last CoD campaign I enjoyed was Ghosts. The last CoD game I played on multiplayer was MW2. For me the CoD franchise died with the last generation of consoles.

Whereas I could play the Rainbow Six Vegas titles for hours and hours and hours at a time. There was always a different way to approach situations tactically with a bunch of different weapons for long range, medium range and short range. If I can't get Rainbow Six Patriots I think I'd enjoy a Rainbow Six Vegas 3 or another new city entirely.

Trouble is... no one wants to hear the truth or even less spend money to learn it. They'd rather be running around a virtual world shooting things with little or no reason or backstory unfortunately...even less if its a story that actually MEANS something to their real lives (so stories about post apocalyptic environments etc are always accepted).

Why do you think the establishment rails so hard against anyone who might have the chance to have the power to actually effect change that will empower the common person and make the majority of people happier, healthier and more content. Nahh.. no money in that.

Absolutely agree with that. It seems like the more i'm out and about these days, people just look like zombies. It's like nobody knows whats going on in the world and they're just constantly connected to their phones like an umbilical cord. It's interesting, we have all of man's knowledge in our pockets everywhere we go now, yet somehow it's made a lot of people far less informed that if it didn't exist to begin with. I guess running around shooting random nonsense in games is good enough for the masses. I personally require a little more to be mentally stimulated when gaming these days.
