Rainbow Six: Patriots trailer
Seeing we're Clancy fans here I was wondering if anyone was ever interested in getting to play the Rainbow Six: Patriots game that never got released.
Here's what I know about Patriots from some compiled reading I did. Many people have said this game was a political statement and one that is frighteningly accurate. David Sears was the creative lead of this game and he wanted to tell the story of how corrupt the financial systems within America are. He personally lost all of his 401k and other retirement vehicles in 2008 when the great recession took hold of the country. He knew that many others had experienced exactly what he did and how they would have to pick up the pieces and hope to carry on in the future. Ergo he set forth to create a story about what would happen if a fringe group of Americans decided to take revenge on not just the institutions but the very people who were responsible for destroying millions of American's nest egg, forcing them to have their homes foreclosed on, their families thrown out in the street, all while bankers took a massive bailout from the US government and CEO's received their millions in bonuses per contractual obligation.
At the time the game was being developed for last gen consoles and PC, it was said that production was temporarily haulted so that development for the new consoles can begin. However as we all know this never happened. From the few snippets we've seen here on youtube the story was going to be an incredible one with a truly profound statement being made. When all the dust settled David Sears was released of his obligations of creating this game from Ubisoft and no longer had a job at the company. As many have said, this may have been one of the truest stories in gaming ever told and I'm sure that certain high ups within Ubisoft were absolutely petrified to release it despite any public statements they made regarding Rainbow Six Siege being the best option to develop at this time. I think myself along with many others believe that the content of this subject matter was the sole reason the project was scrapped and with the current political landscape of the country we see today, they probably didn't want to be held liable for any possible issues that may have resulted if this was ever released. That being said I think their fears were completely unfounded and nothing of the sort would have ever taken place, at least not by people who simply played Patriots.
At least that's my take on it from everything I've read. It's a lot of reading between the lines and coming to logical conclusions but of course at the end of the day we'll never know truly know the reasons as to why this never saw the light of day. What's funny is they said they created Siege for it's next-gen experience. LoL, that game is simply call of duty in a house.
