How I Feel About 1.4

I can't wait to see what all the popular folks think (ie: the youtubers).  Personally, I think it's a damn good improvement and will leave it more or less at that.  The patch was meant to fix the foundation of the game and I think they've done that. Even as a solo player, I now feel like nothing is out of reach.  That said, I definitely don't think it's "too easy" either (as Skill Up had mentioned).  Granted I'm far from the best player out there, but after a solid 25 days of playing I think I can hold my own...a Tier 4 Challenging mission solo is doable, but you'll have to dedicate yourself to it.  Also, Hard missions that used to be a cake walk now present more of a challenge.

My favorite change is that every kill counts now.  Open world, DZ, Underground--anywhere you kill a baddy you're getting XP towards "Field Proficiency." Get enough and you get a cache rather than leveling (30 is still the max).  Another interesting change is the Underground leveling.  I was surprised to find I jumped up to level 33 tonight--you only need about 5k XP from 32 to 33.  And 33 to 34 is only about 6k.  No longer do you have to get 30k from grinding over and over and over just to get a cache/level.

Anyhoo, I've got more to say but that's enough writing for now. I doubt 1.4 will silence the haters, but it DOES make the game more enjoyable for the fans in my opinion.

tl;dr

That sh*t's fun when you're winning.

Yeah, Skill Up's comments was from pts week 3. They then in week 4 adjusted the difficulty up a bit . Whether they adjusted again between pts week 4 and release is hard to say. I need to play more. Only roamed last night.

Field Proficiency is pretty cool. Even helping citizenry and any left over field intel all count towards it.

Yep, it seems pretty close to the PTS.  Interesting to see they kept the Underground XP so low.  Get them whilst you can just in case it is an oversight on their part.

I actually find the missions easier on solo than in groups but I do like playing in groups, even with randoms, sometimes.

My main Agent has now all but dropped the Sentries and managed 2 piece TacA (10% skill haste) and random pieces with the bonuses I wanted (mainly bonus armour damage).  I did get the HE piece finally last night with 15% skill damage back as health (for use with my turret).

I am also trying the change from RPK & M1A --> Lightweight M4 & MP7 (nice talents I got on that).  I expected the MP7 to sound like a buzzsaw especially with a RoF mod (1000 rpm).  It sounds more like a phut-phut gun  :31_neutral_face: .

Saw lots of folks carrying LVOA-Cs  :8_laughing: .  Meet the new boss, same as the old boss.

Oh and helping civs also give better rewards as well, not just clothing (no HE obviously).

I played last night for a couple of hours.

Loved it.

Some things I noticed ( will be away for 5 days so cant get to test out!)

- the timer on grenades is hugely reduced ( mobs)

- overall toughness looks like its been reduced? ( wasn't sure as I was running my alpha bridge set at 210k rather than the mismatch set at 580k)

- caches from supply drop auto open now, so no need to equip all your high end 229 gear to get the high end stuff ( I assume the same from the underground caches)

- the Lonestar double your ammo trick doesn't work anymore ( equip 2 pieces lonestar, restock, switch back to reg armour but keep ammo). once you switch back you loose the additional ammo you picked up from lonestar ( I assume the same with police and firemans backpack)

- I initially started in world level 3 to see whats up, no one doing missions, it was empty.

- daily missions seemed "shorter" but tougher. mobs seemed to be a little more "proactive" in their tactics, took us longer. ( was way more fun though) but the actual waves seemed to be less

- street mobs dropped gear sets!

- my G36 is less stable. I saw something about combining stability and accuracy in the mods? anyway I found I had to burst fire rather than just mash the trigger down to maintain accuracy

- M1a seems to be seriously nerfed, did F all damage

- was grouped with <200 GS players in World Tier 4 ( 178 GS the lowest), hard missions. this made it a little tough. I assume we'll just get a heap of players trying to jump world Tier 2 and 3 and go straight to 4.

- saw the re-emergence of pulse in a group situation last night which was great as I was usually the only one running it ( just love being able to see the mobs after pulse!)

- cooldowns seemed to be longer, but I wasn't running my skill build so not sure.....

That's really all I noticed last night, but my overall impression is things are looking good! I enjoyed the changes, things weren't as easy as I feared ( after watching Skilled ups video). I found the toughness about right.

I didn't really have any issues ( apart from shotgunners and those f'ing flame throwing bosses) in 1.3 so was really worried this would be "baby-ish". I actually found it slightly tougher last night which was great.

didn't do any underground, incursions or challenging missions last night so will see what they look like next week

Only managed to log in and go get my supply drop.

Guarded by 7+ Elites at World Tier 4 (my GS is now 226), hadn't changed anything really in my loadout except swapping out my PP-19 for an M249 I had.

Primary still is my G36. Its DPM with the mods I have now has INCREASED by approx 20% (from 134k to 168k), likewise pretty much all my gear has inceased DPM ... however ... my Toughness and Electronics are far lower.

Electronics is the skill I want to work on when I have time and I will also need to jig things around to get some more toughness as I was more armour specc'd before and I'm clearly more "squishy" now (level 33 Elites ... hurt!).

On plus side I cleared them just fine, happy with grenades hurting them.

On the negative side, sure handing out things to civilians gives you XP but their drops... World Tier 4 and I get a GS 089 blue item?!? I'd really rather get gold material drops please!

Yup and yup!

But let's not talk about the First Wave Vector 45 ACP I got last night...or as I like to call it, the Airsoft Vector.

I got to play for an hour or so today, and so far, I am pretty pleased.  I went through the Madison Field Hospital and Napalm Production Facility missions solo on Hard in World Tier 4, and was actually in danger of dying a couple of times.  The challenge is there, but at least on Hard, it wasn't unfair and if you don't run and gun, it is balanced and fun.  I managed in 30-40 minutes to do those two missions and run around the map killing 10 rikers, picking up fabric, and topping off my 400k EXP bar to get the caches for crafting, combat and field proficiency, which all yielded good stuff, as did the bosses and a couple of other enemies.  I don't think that I've previously had so many 229 weapons and gear items drop in that short a timespan.  I think it will take me some time to get used to the bounty that is 1.4 gear after getting a lot of 182 and 204 items in Challenging and Heroic.  I definitely want to run Falcon Lost more often now that it has checkpoints.

So far, so good.  The weapon skin treatment is also nice.

I was previously running a 5 set striker, now running with a 4 set and the 2 piece bonus gives you 20% stability. That coupled with brutal, destructive and focused on my G36 at 230k DPS is working out pretty well. You really notice a huge difference if you can hit headshots

In 1.3, getting 20% accuracy is not that interesting but now it is more relevant. And, yeah they were meant to have changed how aiming works. So aiming and managing your recall are more relevant.

I tried a few different assault rifles which had higher damage and transferred my mods over from my G36 but I couldn't find one with the accuracy of the G36. On 1.3 I was running with 71% enemy armour damage and a decent damage to elites both of which have been scaled right down now but overall it seems better off

Accuracy and stability have completely changed. You will not be able to apply what you had in 1.3 to 1.4, it is now a different beast.

I sold most of my 1.3 gear last night and now have close to 5mill to start getting caches with and doing some reconfigurations.

Whilst there is a fail amount of loot dropping, I am still finding it difficult to beat the stuff I have.  The loot so far is a but worse in quality than on the PTS...

There is the Health and Electronics lvl 33 mod blueprints and the lvl 33 performance blueprint at the blueprint vendor in the underground.  At 600+ PXC each an expensive purchase to get them all but as they give 200+ bonus to stats probably worth it.

Oh Lincoln Tunnel... here we go again...

I'd figured that PTS had a little bit more favorable drops (quantity and quality) so that all items from 1.4 would have a high potential to be acquired and possibly used.   At least, I would assume that so they could try to look for bugs and issues with everything they updated.

The abundance of loot will mean we'll sell most for creds which will go to recalibrating our fav pieces.
I think there's far too much loot now. Playing tier 4 and random rioters roaming the street are dropping gear sets and 229 items. Missions are providing 4-5 pieces of high end plus a couple of gear set each time. Seems it's gone completely the other way than what it was.
