Did challenging missions just get insanely harder?

So my friends and I just did the Russian Consulate on challenging mode, and it seemed way harder than it has been in the past few times we've done it.  We also tried the Lincoln Tunnel on challenging and we got crushed.  We could barely make it to the snipers, and thats one that we have done a dozen times in a single sitting almost everyday.  Did they make the challenging mode harder all of the sudden and not say anything?  We honestly didn't mind it.  Made it more fun we think, just curious is all.  Thanks!!

I haven't noticed any changes. You should definitely consider matchmaking for 2 more squad members though.

I have been playing with 4 people and they are very hard. Spent two nights without managing to complete the Russian consulate and the Power station.  It's taking an average 30 level team over an hour to do half a mission.

We only managed to get to the  library and until the second wave where you been chased by the shotgun rushers! The only question I raise here for Ubi is why do you give us tech if is been hacked non stop? So how should we defeat the enemy? Ammo is running out fast and no farts left in us to kill them!;)

The thing is we had 4 people, all of who play together and know how to stack skills, all high end gear and such.  And we normally cruise right through, but tonight wasn't the case.  Just seems like the NPC's were extremely aggressive tonight compared to every other time, and the difficulty was increased somehow.  Was still fun to do, just struck us all as odd.  Haven't tried the power plant yet though.  That should be fun lol

A group of 4 of us usually do Challenging Missions fairly easy. I honestly think they seem perfectly tuned right now. Not hard enough to make you rage quit and slam the ubisoft forums and they aren't easy enough to the point where you can plow through them (Hard missions). Our group is mainly already in full High end gear + weapons. depending on the mission, I normally use Smart Cover - Trapper or Sticky Bomb (Always alongside self heal) and Survivor Link.  A friend of mine, also depending on the mission will use Seeker Mine - Gas Charge and Heal/Team Revive. Other two roll with Heal/ Pulse -Tactical Scanner and Tactical Link.

Hope this helps

Challenging missions should be EXTREMELY hard (like they are) if you are not properly geared...otherwise the game will just die out and end game for people who have high end gear will feel ridiculously easy. (not saying you don't have the gear, this is for the new 30's that are freaking out about CM)

For the rushing shot gunners, try using the portable cover.  Block the door way with it and stack them up. Pulse scan them for the extra damage and you should be able to take them all out in about 6 seconds with decent focus firing.

Without knowing your team members stat make ups, as well as your own, it's hard to say. The runs are a breeze with a 4 man squad that each can melt an elite in one mag, but having 1-2 of those players and 2-3 that can't makes it a difficult run. Using cover effectively, shot placement, effective range, knowing spawn points and npc behavior, flanking, suppression, consumable use, skill stuns.... it all helps, and hurts when you don't know/do it.

did the power plant challenge mission last night, didnt seem harder. seemed about the same..our team (me, g1nt3r, spookie, and Onyhx)  breezed right through it with no problems. do what C2L3W1 wrote and also try flame turrets and incendiary grenades, stops shot-gunners in their tracks :)

We had a group of three last night, only trouble we had was the last two timed waves (before the last valve activation) I think we wiped the first time.

What a blast though!

the only problem we have on that mission is the wave of shot-gunners in the final room..they are brutal, but we didnt wipe this time lol. you doing that mission with 3 and only wiped once is damn good :)

Those shotgun guys are the worsttt, that and the three "guards" for the last boss.

we do our best :)  I think the biggest tip for Challenging is to be Very coordinated in your first strike (After that all hell breaks loose, so make your firt strike hit hard) and Vocalize with your team. if something needs to be called out, i.e an enemy unit is almost dead, a back-packed enemy has their back turned to a specific player, enemies are trapping a team mate, or simply someone just needs a heal. Be vocal with your team

you are right on all accounts, that type of team work is going to be needed with "incursions"..if some of these people think the Russian consulate and the power plant is hard on challenging..they are really going to hate the "incursions" lol

sometimes, the only option that works is to stand and fire at whats trying to kill you as a team...especially with shotgunners. If you're not all clustered together tight enough to be hit with the same shot from them, one of you may go down, but 2-4 dpsing the same shotgunner makes them fall QUICKLY.

The power plant actually seemed EASIER last night. We made some minor tweaks to how we run it (one less player with smart cover, replaced with the friendship circle-healing station) I think someone only went down in the second leg due to those damn snipers up top.

It's not easy to where we will break out our pistol challenge on it anytime soon, but after doing it so many times, you just know what the AI is going to do and you become prepared for it.

Our team is still open to helping anyone who wants to beat the challenging missions or wants to see how we do it. Just give me, @Glittergunner15 or @PLZD2REAPU a shout.

Or just visit our Twitch and see how we ran it last night.

i agree with this.  i feel bad for ppl who spent the time/resources to set up for turrets and can't use them in that mission because of the high probability of hacking.

I think it was intentionally set up that way, to force players to change their loadouts. Even if it is a slight change, it gave them a point where what worked before now hurt instead. Other skills still function 75-99% of the time without incident, but skills that have a static placement get stolen.

The sad bit is a lot of players just don't notice it. The same guy will throw a turret out every time the skill is cooled down, just to watch it turn on him.

I'd be down to run w/you guys sometime...provided your group isn't full and the guys I usually run w/aren't on.

We usually farm Lexington for Phoenix credits, and we can run through it in about 20min or a bit longer, depending on who is in the group...so I'd like to see how you guys tackle the Power Plant w/seemingly relative ease.

Up until last night, I had my lvl 30 gear spec'd for talents as well as the firearms/health/tech trimmed out perfect for my playsytyle, but I switched it all out for all of the lvl 31 gear I have been collecting. Currently, I'm wearing all 31, save for my gloves, and I've got a fairly balanced gear trim with 110k/70k/16k build....my point being, I'm not looking to get carried, just learn.

Anyway, I'm spending today with my wife and daughter, but next time I'm on, I'll look for you guys...my PSN: whodat_o_o_o

Lexington or Lincoln  are both far easier and faster to run than Warrengate. That being said, Warrengate is pretty straight forward, with only two spots of relative difficulty, the timed section, and the final fight.

Timed section:

8 minutes is extreme overkill when you do it methodically. Only turn one valve at a time to prevent squad members from getting stuck in the spawn and stay on the middle raised platform with the main valve, all of you. That platform gives a GREAT overlook to all three spawn areas, allowing mass stunning as soon as the enemies exit their doors, and only has two ways enemies usually come for you. Stun mod sticky bombs, airburst seekers, incendiary ammo, shock/incendiary grenades, anything that has enough radius to stun the majority while you all burn out the runners. Have one player moving twords the next valve as the last enemy from each wave is being wiped, and no one else leaves the platform.

Final Fight:

The first two waves should be easy enough to deal with. It's the third and the 4th that are the rough patches for most.

Before the start of the third wave, when one enemy is left in the room, check your ammo and run out for a restock if it's even nearing half capacity. Also, use this time to collect medkits dropped by the first two waves if need be. At the start of the third wave, have two squad members on each side of the room, on the side you entered from. Three runners/shotgunners come up each side, with 1-2 on each sometimes funneling into the center aisle. Stuns in any form are very helpful here as well. Burn from distance if you can, and with blind fire if you can't.

Before the start of the 4th wave, same thing applies...leave one alive, restock and collect medkits if need be. The main boss and his guards enter from the opposite side you entered the room from, descending the staircase. The bottom of the staircase is a great point to methodically launch stuns against them all at once, and someone in group running a LARGE (185-200) mag LMG with incendiary ammo helps a ton as well. When you're out of stuns, draw all of them to the side of the room you entered from, then have your highest dps run around the edge of the room to the staircase they came down from, and to the top of it. They don't like to climb back up the stairs, and your highest dps should have no trouble turning their attention around to protect the group. Use the control room as a safe spot, as there is no cover to be had up there, launching whatever you can at them. Bouncing threat levels back and forth should have the Guards spinning around at the base of the stairs, always with their weak points facing someone that can cook off their ammo. Once the Guards are down, take out the main boss..he's squishier, but he packs a punch.
