Dwarven Lord Under The Mountain
A bit of an open question really, but now I'm starting to upload regular content to my YouTube channel I wonder if the more experienced members could give me pointers on the type of content that is more popular.

Whilst it seems that short guides or instruction/information videos on my channel seem the most popular I'd like to and enjoy providing Let's Play and other game play based content so pointers on how to improve this such as video length, what content to focus on etc would be helpful.

Next plan is to provide a guide to Survival next on my schedule but wish to continue Let's play content as a more regular series.

Are my Let's Play videos too long? Is it the wrong end of content as the series I'm running is focused on pre-level 30 game play?

Pretty sure my presentation skills need practice so i'm not worried about that at this time. Thankful for any ideas, suggestions and help.

I'll probably keep an eye on this thread.  All I currently do is unscripted broadcasts and  recordings of my play on Twitch, but I wouldn't mind at some point maybe making YouTube videos going thru my toons and builds and my logic behind my choices.

Edit: Whoa, that could be something you do.  Quick maybe 10-15 min videos going over your weapons & mods, gear & mods, skills and talents/perks showing what you're running, why you're running it and what it works best for - PvE, PvP, missions, etc.

I can, I've done them before but the two things that strike me that are to the detriment of this are:

1) My build certainly changes pretty much every game session. I find a part or a mod that improves something and I add it. My build is 100% fluid and is likely to always be so.

2) I don't count myself as a min-max expert at all. I'm sure there are 1,000's of players who investigate and look into their builds much better than I do.

However, I may well do a "weekly" update on my build and give some general hints and tips regarding post-level 30 builds in general anyway. Might be a 10min or so video so worth it and worth my time.

I'm, obviously, not running my channel for the money (I think I've made 0.71c so far) but I would like to get a few hundred subscribers and know I'm providing content that people enjoy to watch. I can't be subjective about what I produce you see... I listen to it back and think "Yeah, I'd watch this" so I'm really interested to hear what others think.

For YouTube I think those are ok but generally too long for a lot of people to watch on a regular basis. From my own subscription and viewing habits I find video's of between 15-30mins are ideal for MY lifestyle to watch. Do you break up your recordings to more manageable chunks? Most of the game missions are pretty much fine for straight transposition to YouTube as they're all about 20-30mins (except Lex, which is about 8!), so maybe start to break up your Twitch recordings into mission segments?

If you're really looking to entertain and do something not a lot of people do, you could try to do Semi-Roleplay videos, where you follow a certain objective for an episode or two. The best example I can give of this is FrankieOnPC1080's videos on youtube (Mainly ARMA II/III DAYZ content) which are particularly striking and always makes you ask for more. Now of course with the Division it could be a bit harder to pull off because it's nowhere nearly as open as ARMA but I think it's doable. If I was able to do so I'd already be littering my channel with that stuff. There is a lot of potential there.

Maybe start with a new build and try to give it character as you go along. That's what I'm doing while I'm writing the Greenhorn Diary.

That's a good idea. I also liked SideStrafe's duel point of view videos he did of The Division which were similar (aka semi-roleplayed) and whilst I can't do the complex editing required for that, something similar to as you suggest might be a good idea.

I'll have a go over the holidays on some recordings, not 100% sure as I don't have much of an "acting" voice but I'll give it a go.

Nice suggestion! Thank you

@quinch1199 The build vids don't have to be min/max vids.  I post on my Twitch that I'm a filthy casual and would make content for the casual.  It's no fun to watch a min/max vid and realize you don't have the time play enough to get that exact build.

I've never really thought of breaking up my videos into smaller segments, but I guess I could do that.  I'm probably going to try and run some Survival over the next week or two with holiday breaks so I could break up my vids into each run.

PS4 SURVIVALLLLLL!!

Look out for my Survival Hints-N-Tips video coming soon (after Christmas now it looks like unfortunately).

I did run three Survival runs and broke my stream up into two pieces, the second one has two runs but that's because I got ganked and killed 2 mins in.  Jumped a wall and got jumped.

Ran like 5 or 6 runs last night and did most of them PvE.  We've decided to try and get our plan hammered out and possibly extract some before going back to PvP.
