Why multiple characters?

So I am having this discussion with my mate over at ARMD and wondering if you guys have any extra info for me.

Is there any reason to run multiple characters?

The only reason we can come up with atm is to have extra inventory space by being able to store things in the alts.

With your DZ money and xp being tied to your character that means you are cutting your potential by spreading your efforts over multiple characters. The only up side is your stash does spread over your multiple characters but once again you can get the same rewards by running one character? or can you?

My theory is there may be a mechanic at the end game especially if there is raid style bosses and you are locked to one lootable per boss per character per week like Destiny does for nightfall then it could be worth while?

The other reason it doesnt make sense is the fact that you can respecialise your character at any time in the division.

thoughts guys?

For me having multiple characters is useful.

My brother also bought the game but his gaming time is sporadic so whenever we're both available we'll be playing together. So we both have 1 character where we play together while we also have another one which will be our main character for solo/group play while the other one is offline.

Another reason could be to create specific builds and gear for one character. Having a character focused on Electronics/Stamina compared to Firearms/Stamina and have his weapons, gear and mods represent that. Granted you can also do that by switching gear and talents on the one character but that would be such a hassle.

I have been wondering the same thing given we can switch skills to build specific styles of gameplay on the fly. Unlike other other games we are not stuck with a specific character or have to pay with some in-game currency to change the distribution of skill points, etc.

Do we know if we can share loot between toons yet? If not, well... I guess having another alt will allow one to run solo/with friends like DIR3_W0LF said.

I am sure the guys i was playing with in beta said the stash was shared across characters. So yes you can trade loot to your alts

I haven't read anything official about this yet, it wasn't possible in the beta though. We'll have to wait and see I suppose

The guy in my unit i was playing swears he could in the beta. Dumped hus stuff from his low end into the stash and bus high end character took them out amd sold them

But i didnt try it myself, so i guess he could be wrong.

But there was also this post i found.

So i dont know, will test in open beta if it happens

Interesting question. I personally don't want to deal with swapping gear around, changing skills, etc mid game especially since there is no app support as of yet for the game. For me it is just easier yo have multiple characters with multiple builds and change my character.

I don't see myself making multiple characters primarily for the reasons above- I can alter my skills to get a different playing experience, so there isn't much value in it to me.  Only reason I see would be to have fun working up a new character in co-op with a friend that gets the game after me...and I'm not sure if that will happen.  If the end game gets the frequent content reset like most MMOs then MAYBE...if I'm chasing gear and not gameplay.

My alternate in Destiny just sits there for the most part.  I use it when I feel like something different.  But it's a 290 light warlock that hasn't finished the taken king story missions yet.

I'd say that if there are daily/weekly activities, a la Destiny, then having multiple characters will allow you to run that content on multiple characters. I can't see there not being daily/weekly activities to keep the grind on. We'll see.

I could see it being a "just because thing." Probably doesn't cost them anything to make a multiple character system. Saves them the headache of people crying on forums that they can only make one character.

The only way I see myself making alts is if there is Raid/Dungeon lock outs or other weekly lock outs per toon.

Being able to try different builds once you hit endgame and have multiple characters you can swap to depending on what ur feeling sounds pretty cool to me.

That's something i will do if there are raid lock outs. But there is that exclusive content you get with the season pass that could also benefit from that.
