Survivor on the PTS.

Underground, overground, wombling free
So it seems Survivor is on the PTS from... well, today at some point (it is currently the morning where I am).

What is survivor ?...

24 (or 25, was a bit hazy this morning) people enter and 0 people leave possibly....

There are two modes, PvPvE or PvE.  

PvP seems to be a bit of a Battle Royale if you want it to be but you can also team up.  It is not a one winner mode but multiple people can win (extract).

PvE is the players all against the AI.

Overview;

  • Go on a mission, heli crash, got nothing, big storm;
  • Collect gear from scratch (all PvP players start equal)
  • Get to the center to extract important information
  • Dodge or fight AI (PvP & PvE)
  • Get resources to survive (food, water, medpacks etc)
  • No radar but some resources give prompts to enemy to a range defined by that resource level
  • Clothing needed to combat the storms coldness.
  • Colder the further you go in
  • Hard 2 hour cutoff (due to sickness)
  • Can be done in 1 hour
  • Hunters appear when extracting to stop you
  • Completely separate from the main game (death / gear not carried over)
  • Rewards for survival to your main game - caches mentioned (up to 15)
  • You have to queue for a Survivor mission (may be an issue if you cannot go without all slots being filled)
Sounds interesting.  Keeping yourself alive will be interesting but the possibly 2 hour commitment per session may be a bit long for some casual gamers.

I will be giving it a go tonight if it is actually there on PTS.  

PTS is still only PC players (17GB patch apparently) but there are still working with Sony and MS to try and get something up for console players.

I am unclear whether 1.5 will also be on the PTS but hopefully so.

So.. perhaps if we look at Survivor as one huge dungeon run but with some special mechanics? 

I'm honestly a little confused about the reasons behind or benefits of the DLC but maybe I've just not got enough out of it. That said if they introduced it as a completely separate game-within-a-game .... I could see what its for. 

I'm not a fan of blipping into and out of it to be honest. Ideally it would be a game mode/game for an Alt character to literally survive wholly within and never come out of. They could just send items out from that game into the other game but reside there all the time.
