Survival Stories.

RimBlock

Underground, overground, wombling free
It is probably about time to have a Survival Stories thread.

I played twice tonight.

First try I had quite a bit of trouble getting tools and was left with 11 minutes remaining buy the time I could craft the mask and just charged in to the Dark Zone figuring I could at least get some more exp for getting a bit further.  I had a blue M249 and a blue LOVA-C plus all blue equipment by that time.

Drugged up to the gills to try and buy a bit more time I started to run for the anti-virus which was up in DZ4 (I was in DZ 1) when I heard the extraction chopper... '30 seconds remaining' and it was on the car park roof just down the road from me.  I charged for it and missed it by about 10 seconds.  I did get two gold loot caches though.  I then went charging up the map to try to get to the anti-virus and just as I was passing the central landing zone, 'Chopper inbound...'.  I charged in to one of the tents with an overlook of the site and saw one player and one Hunter.  I helped kill the hunter and then joined the player.  Shortly another player joined us along with another hunter that we all killed quite quickly (we were pretty close so full damage from 3 directions) and we dusted off.  Superb bit of luck with that one.

The second was not so lucky.  I got in to the DZ much earlier but without much in the way of upgraded gear (Blue M60, Purple holster and a blue mask.  Rest were green).  The anti-virus was by the gas station LZ in the lower DZ and I was up around DZ4.  There were roaming groups everywhere.  I think I had 3 groups chasing me down at one point.  Well I made it to the scaffold overlooking the landing zone and there are a few bad guys there.  I kill maybe 4 plus a few following me and drop my turret down.  I come down the road to the side and realign facing the gas station so all the bad guys can only come from one direction and then I see them.  Two gold lmg LMB guys (not the HMG guys) and one of them is a named boss.  I down the normal gold guy and a few reg guys when I hear the chargers and see a guy going for me.  I start shooting the charger whilst the named guy is shooting me and then the turret goes down.  No problem, I have cover and there is only a charger to deal with right...  Nope, click, click, click... out of ammo.  I try to switch to the pistol and fumble and get batted to death.  Turns out there were 5 baseball guys all charging me.  Not sure how a solo guy could have done that one especially as the ammo was quite scarce that run (first run ammo was fine) and you need div tech for gold weapons now as well.  Should have had a backup weapon really.

I do like survival but have yet to make it out solo without tagging on to another team or player.

Someone want to sticky this thread like the DZ Stories one ?.

Ok, another couple of runs last night.  Good and bad.

First run was ok but found it pretty hard to find any weapon parts so could not craft any decent weapons.  Found myself backed in to a corner with two mobs coming for me, all from the same direction luckily, and managed to divide and conquer them.  One dropped a green SAS-G.  I then came across the police station and managed to take out the 6+ Cleaners without getting fried and got a fair amount of weapon parts, crafted a purple LVOA-C and found a purple RPK but time was running out so finally managed to craft the mask and ran in to the DZ.  I got in with around 12 minutes left on the clock.  The anit-virus was at the same level but right across the map from me and on the way over I managed to aggro a purple LMB mob which turned in to 3 mobs but managed to get up on some scaffold and took them out one at a time from there (one mob was distracted so not too bad).

I grabbed the anti-virus and ran for the safehouse and crafted the flaregun but now only had 6 minutes left.  I ran for the garage roof and on getting up there heard that the chopper was on the way in.  I could hear someone taking pot shots but could not see any Hunters and so carefully manouvered around the two small structures on the garage roof and when I looked around the back there was a Hunter. They were facing the building across the road where someone was sniping at them so up comes my LVOA-C and I empty a mag in to it.  The Hunter dodges, weaves and then jumps down to the sub roof (accessible by the alley ladder).  With grenades I manage to get them running around so I could get a good angle and shoot them (the thick wall makes it hard to shoot the sub-roof without exposing yourself).  I downed the Hunter.  The other guy ran over the road but the chopper would still not land saying the area was still not safe.

We ran all around the roof and could not find anything but then standing on the wall at the back, I heard shots and looked down to see a red bad guy shooting something.  Putting my sights on the other character on the street, it was a 2nd Hunter.  Together we managed to kill it fairly quickly and ran for the chopper.  I got on with 3 minutes to spare.

My second run was a little less auspicious...

I got reasonably well equipped but weapon parts were a bit of a challenge again but with time running out I went in to the DZ.  The Anti-virus was a bit further down and I had to find 'alternative' routes due to the number of mobs walking around and only having blue weapons.  I came across a virus area and thought I would try to run through quickly.  2 seconds in with blurred vision I decided to turn around and run back... 3 seconds and I was dead, no medkit revive.  Bit disappointed at that outcome.  Oh well, lesson learnt.

I am enjoying Survival but nothing particularly good loot wise at all.

Come on guys and girls...  Not meant to be just me posting.

This is also out on PS4 on Tuesday so everyone can join in.

Had 2 runs last night...

1st failed badly before I even got anywhere.

2nd was not too bad.  I am noting locations down as I keep getting to the same places through luck rather than through a planned route.  This should change that and allow me to get resources and craft stuff to get to other locations before they are fully looted.

I came across a player outside the DZ who helped me kill off some bad guys and then took all the loot.  I probably would have dies without his help though so meh.  I got my bits and headed in to the DZ (bottom right entry point as usual) and found the anti-virus was at the gas station LZ.  I hoped there would be no named boss there this time.  I ran down to it using some back alleys and took out one group of reds, only to have two more groups join in from different directions.  I managed to take them all out apart from 2 and then another player joined in and we cleared them.  The other player then ran off on their own merry way and I continued to the LZ.   I ran up on to the LZ pad and managed to clear the initial 3 bad guys there, dealt with another 3 that turned up and then rather than wait around hunted for the anti-virus, ran straight past it down the alley at the back, onto the street and in to a group of LMB.  I took them out but then another group came up behind me and a second group came from the front.  I ran.  No matter how good I am, I can't do 9 LMB especially when refilling ammo is not an option.  I ran around the corner to the main N/S road back towards the gas station and then back on to the LZ and found the AV.  I then went up to a safe house, crafted the flare gun but still could not craft a gold weapon so just resigned myself to go up to the central LZ.  On the way I heard the chopper and so came running up and saw a Hunter.  Opened up and did a lot of cat and mouse but the managed to down me.  Luckily a medkit revive and running around saved me and I went high in to the structures with the balcony and found another player.  We worked together and managed to kill two Hunters in total (they were using turrets and support stations) and managed to evac.  I got a full load of caches out too  :91_thumbsup:  but no special GS pieces as usual  :31_neutral_face: .

Fun times.

PvE

Spawned near the river in South Chelsea. I worked with the tactic of avoiding the chopper crash sites and working towards landmarks instead. Other agents start dying and I work my way towards one downed agent I could see…unfortunately (fortunately?) he decides to leave the session or times out just as I was getting to him and I collect his loot as well.

My “Spidey-sense” was in top form and I track down plenty of loot and I keep working in a North East direction. I find a significant loot area protected by two gangs of reds that my green crafted AK make short work of. I get to a cold resistance of -21 (far more than I need) and decide to work towards the DZ now.

Errors made – some loot ignored/missed as usual but mainly I crafted a purple 131GS LVOA-C. I also forgot to craft the green extended magazine. I would have been better off crafting a Blue SCAR-L plus extended mag ready for the DZ.

DZ with about 20 or so mins left but limited meds (but not an issue). Mainly picking corpses I get what’s needed and once I craft the flare gun I head to extraction point West DZ03 (I think) which is ground level, street cross roads…and ponder what to do.

I’d crafted some armour and First Aid but not much else, in fact the area seemed pretty clear of Ai mobs! Clearly I was pretty late to the party which is just as well as I felt a little too squishy. I wandered a little but then heard an extraction going down and it was at the nearby extraction point!! (lady luck here I come).

I find a guy fighting against his Hunter, I lend my weight behind it and we take him down …. MY hunter appears!! I get taken down, three more players turn up all called to the same area by the extraction. I get medic’d. Three further hunters turn up and all hell breaks loose!!

A desperate fight ensues between the five agents and the, now, three remaining Hunters. I constantly flank the Hunters to help whittle them down but in doing so I go down again .. medic’d again. The last Hunter drops and I’m close because of my flanking. I grab a cache from him and the chopper is landing…I book it to the waiting extraction as an agent passes me to try and get a cache. I make it to the chopper mere seconds before he leaves and … TAKE THE LAST PLACE.

As we lift off we leave a solitary agent behind, likely a bit pissed off and alone to find his way out.

Nice one.

I played quite a bit over the weekend and failed most of the time, usually by gunfire death with AI or solo extraction fighting a hunter (once by cold :37_disappointed:  ).

One I played though, I had no weapon parts but got the anti-virus, found two div tech parts and then managed to extract with 44s left on the clock (joined two others at the extraction).

I have noticed that not everyone starts in the session at the same time.  I had played for 1 1/2 hours and someone was dead in the dark zone for over 2 hours.  That would explain when it seems like everywhere has been looted.

I tend to run with he LVOA-C & a LMG combo (with the green extended mag for both) if I can but the Scar Marksman rifle served me well as a battle rifle when I found one of those.

I keep making the mistake of upgrading materials when the game only gives you a Green pattern for an Extended magazine! I found a nice SMG-9 (blue) as a drop but still only used it as a secondary (habit!) but the main thing is to always remember the "type" of areas of the map

> Light Industrial / Retail / Residential.

This has a huge impact on what loot is available and where you can find it. Head for zones according to what you need, I use Landmarks to guide me accordingly.

Light Industrial = Tools, Weapon parts, Electronics

Retail = Electronics, Fabrics

Residential = Clothing, Weapon parts, Fabrics

...these are in the order of easiest to find by location.

So mine was not nearly as good as you guys,

Just got it last night on PS4 had 3 runs, the first two I got killed by players, particularly by players in groups, but hey I chose PVP. After that I decided to try out the PVE mode to see if I would fair any better. It went well; I started in South East Manhattan, near a number of playgrounds and garages, all of which were occupied by lowly red Rikers. They were no match for my pistol... As time went by, and my oh my does it go by quickly, I began to find a number of crafting materials. At this stage I have -10 cold mitigation, so I am doing okay after 20 mins, temperatures dropped to -22 and I found myself running from barrel to barrel... 20 agents remain... Hideout, finally!!After crafting lots and lots of gear, I made the mistake of crafting a performance mod. "Why would I even need that?" I thought to myself.  Must have been the hunger. Okay, to the closest landmark we go. As I ran along the most southern part of Manhattan I came across another player, I instinctively shoot him, "WHY ISN'T IT WORKING!?"....."Oh"... *waves*... 12 agents remain.

On I go, I come across a number of Rikers on my travels south to try and get into the DZ at the lower entrances as well as touching on a number of landmarks on the way. I make my way to the landmark and nothing, everything has been looted, all they left me was an energy bar. This isn't good, in my haste to make landmarks I haven't been picking up many consumables, I'm thirsty now... And hunger kicks in... I stagger my way to shelter and find a treasure trove of consumables. 8 agents remain... I am well set now. *Black screen*.................. "What the f*%k?".... "Delta C-0-1243 error, servers are no longer available"....

I reset the internet and eventually join back in. Thankfully.. I enter the DZ unscathed infection wise from my disconnect. I am mainly blue gear and purple weapons at this stage, I am well set. I enter down south, praying the antivirals spawn down here..... No suck luck. I enter DZ1, antivirals spawn DZ5... I run, all the while, extractions are happening around me... "XxxGossipgirlXxx was killed by Hunter"..... RIP... I get the antivirals running into very few NPC's. Perks of being last into the DZ. I find 6 sealed caches lying at an extraction.... Thanks Gossipgirl. Hideout, craft, no gold guns but I do have all purples.. Surely I am well set..

I run to extraction with 10 minutes left and 1 medicine to boot, I could scavenge but I am happy with my lot.. I look around for prying eyes and wandering NPC's. Nothing. Extraction called.. My coms are jamming, "why can't I use my skills? Damn, oh is that a player?" "Hunter".... Shit.. 1.2.3 hunters? "What the f%*k?"... Two other players run past me as I am being targeted by 3 hunters. "F%*kers must have entered the extraction as I called it.!". They ran off, leaving me for dead.....

It doesn't take long, about 1 grenade and 6 bullets later I am down.... Okay, I have medic kits.. Get up... *Shocked*.... *Dead*......shit.

Damn, even in PVE other players wreck it for me.

Had 3 runs tonight over about 1.5-2hrs, all were 2-man PvP

1st run: about 75 mins & 2800 pts - Started down S of the BoO and E of Camp Hudson, but not exactly in the row houses.   We were going along fine for a while, but my teammate couldn't find tools and wasn't able to craft a mask.  He got them at one point but something happened and they disappeared from his inventory.  My teammate ended up with a mediocre LMG and I had a SRS, so we were doing fine engaging NPCSs and managed to avoid confrontation with the only players we bumped into.  Aside from that, this run would have been ok, but I had to leave in the middle for about 10-15 min to help my wife clean up the bathroom that our toddler straight up destroyed (bandaids, makeup, hair ties, ointments and perfume everywhere).  When I got back we only had about 17 min and couldn't get tools for my teammate so we didn't really try to get to the DZ.  We had some meds, but not enough to make it worthwhile.

2nd run: about 2 min & 360 pts- Started by the train tracks on the far W side of the map, near the Erskine PvE boss.  Basically we grabbed our crap from the starting point, crossed the agreed, hopped a wall and stumbled onto two other players.  They tagteamed my teammate and I couldn't shoot for shit so they dropped him without either of them going down.  They then 2v1'd me and that was that.

3rd run: about 50 min & 1100 pts - Started absolute far SE by Warrengate.  We did ok running thru the buildings by the HVT spawn by Warrengate.  The only real issue we had was getting clothing to increase our temp rating.  We needed up with M870's and we're going along fine until we decided to engage a lvl 30 elite LMG, and he kicked the crap out of us.  We got into a spot where we really couldn't run and we were way undergeared.

All in all, at 0-3, I still had fun and look forward to more runs.  I know there's a learning curve, so right now my goal is to try to continue to steadily up my personal best.  For the night I ended up with 2 Survival caches, a gun cache (?), and I think a field prof cache.  I didn't get anything worthwhile, but I could have fared better if I didn't have to wait like 2 hrs for Survival to DL.  Thought it would auto DL since my box was in rest mode,  but that was wrong so I had to run old content while it DL'd.

-          Feel that pain. I had a really decent start to a run last night. Spawned South of the UN building near the large blocks of apartments, rapidly found Blue SCAR & MK46, clothing wasn’t an issue due to spawn area and I’d crafted a mask within about 15mins….but then it was my son’s bedtime and I had to decide to go out in a blaze of glory by finding the largest, hardest, mob of enemies outside the DZ I could find…so ended my run.

Disappointed so far!

I had 2 runs last night but somehow i only manage to reach the entrance of DZ and i get gunned down by NPC Elite! My problem is that you can't fight these guys with a blue machine gun and a pistol. On my way i killed 20-25 NPC but they don't drop any weapons and everything what i find was some purple gear, I crafted a pulse and the turret but these seems sting of a mosquito to thes elites LMBs. I have 2 characters and with the other one I played pvp I entered in DZ with some nice gear but I turned the corner in a building and in 1 second I was downed by LMB and i couldn't even use my medikit.

I will keep trying but overall I think this is not a solo mission, you have more chances if you play with someone both pvp and pve, and they should place at least some purple stuff as you approaching DZ because around DZ entrance are only elites.

thanks for any advice guys!

peace

So, how are you guys at hitting Masters rank at Survival.?

I've heard everything counts  (i.e. try to achieve max kills/health/cold resistance/thirst suffering before extraction.).

And then I've seen the ytube clips of the extractions at the last.. [underline possible LAST] possible extraction ... Second!!!!!  for max pts... but still.. you know, player's exp tromps... B/S...

So, share 0ls. Got a couple of weeks until I'm back. Afkb, so fafkb lol.

Pfft! Master!?! Hell... I feel lucky just to get on that chopper at the end, I care not for stats other than a big pile of loot at the end.

My problem is that you can't fight these guys with a blue machine gun and a pistol.
You can craft Purple in the safe houses/bolt holes closest to the DZ before you go in.

Sometimes though a blue will do if you're crafty enough... try crafting an advanced virus filter before going in as well. It means you can use highly contaminated short cuts to avoid big chunks of enemies AND gets you access to Div Tech without having to fight Elite Ai mobs.

This means, if you're cunning enough, you can then craft HE weapons using the Div Tech as well.

A Story of Failure!

My run is going well, South West coast spawn so I decide to initially head directly East before heading towards the DZ. Things progress well… there was a hiccup where I stupidly engaged too many enemies whilst I still only had my pistol and had to use a medical kit…perhaps I should have taken note and realised this was a taste that I was in the wrong frame of mind for this.

This run, instead of safe haven hopping like I usually do or heading for landmarks I make a point of seeking out dead agents.

I live off the dead…gathering materials, equipment as I go and I find I hardly have to craft or gather from other places as my fellow agents fall like flies. As no point did I need to kill one though, all having deceased before I arrive to gather the loot they leave behind.

However, it becomes apparent that the other agents are dropping far too fast! Before I make a line for the DZ we’re down to only seven…I like to extract with others…this is tight. As I get into the DZ we’re down to only 5, my entrance point is unlooted and immediately I have 4 caches, with the advanced filter I have already I rapidly have all the caches I can carry.

But now there are only four agents!

I hear a pick up going down……I have to get there! As I arrive I see the horror as all three are down and bleeding, I rush to one and use a med-pack to raise him. I look up and see another nearby so I make a mad dash…foolish…really foolish.

Both myself and a Hunter get to him at the same time, Hunter barging around the corner, preternatural reflexes as he strikes me with his axe before I even realise he’s there.

I’m down…I fail….I have fallen and the remaining agent runs away, sensibly.

Completed a couple of times now, sharing with team mates and good comms seems to work best. Weigh up what you're up against before getting carried away.

Got a two in one kill with a starting pistol in PvP Survival this morning, so that happened lol. I managed to last all the way up until I had my flare gun and anti-virals. Went to request an extraction and got eaten by a Hunter, literally took my ass out in 2-3 seconds. Had no medkits to revive so I was done for. Damn though, Survival is amazing. The ambience, the atmospheric vibes are outta this world. Imagine that shit in VR or something.

Yeah, I don't play Survival much, but I got my first extraction ever last Thursday when I was running solo in PvE.  Got all my stuff together, including my HE M44, met a player that had called in the extraction at the DZ02 parking garage and then we went across the street and up the rope to the top of the building where we sniped the first hunter.  We then went down, approached the garage, spawned the second hunter and then repeated the above steps before extracting.

Yes, the extraction wasn't 100% solo and it was in PvE, but it was my first so baby steps.

Yeah, that was my first ever game of Survival too. I should of probably tested the waters with PvE first, but wanted a challenge to see how well I'd hold up. I like testing myself. The minute you mentioned DZ02 is the minute I knew I fucked up, I was extracting in DZ09 so no wonder the Hunter had me for lunch. I had no idea you could extract into lower tier DZ, I just figured where it wanted me to go was the spot I had to go. Probably was just the nearest to me.

You can extract in any extraction from the DZ, it probably possibly pointed you to that one based on where you got the antivirals or where you were when you crafted your flare gun if you did that after getting the antivirals.  The route I took is kind of a "cheese", as the hunter won't come to get you but they'll keep coming into the open to try and shoot you which makes them easy sniper targets.  If you're going to go toe to toe with them you'll want probably some combo of pulse, turret, support station or first aid and you'll want all 3 medkits.   You can't afford to go down when the hunter is close.
