I'm at gear set 229 on the game, but I am just running with different things. I'm looking for a good gear set to run with and also some good weapons. If anyone could help me I would appreciate it.

Seriously, though, I run three toons with rather different build styles.

Toon 1: 4 pc AlphaBridge set with two HE pieces - For this toon, I designed him more as a attacker/tank.  He's got the highest toughness and DPS of my toons and with the 4x AB, I can run 6 talents on my weapons as long as the talents aren't the same.  As such, this toon primarily runs a 204 tactical MK16 with vicious/brutal/destructive (backup of 204 LVOA-C with swift/deadly/fierce), 229 PP-19 with destructive/sustained/hurried (backup of either 229 MP5-ST with stable/accurate/brutal or 204 AUG with self-preserved/stable/deadly), 229 tactical M249 with balanced/vicious/commanding (backup of 204 M60 with balanced/swift/brutal) and I think he's got some DMRs too.  The multiple sets of weapons are for when he runs out of ammo (since both primary and secondary feed from the same ammo pool), I can then just swap weapon sets.  I carry a couple different backup SMGs because I like the different talent sets on them, basically between the three SMGs I have 9 of the talents that I like the most on weapons and can mix and match them as the situation dictates.  The key with a 4 pc AlphaBridge is have your primary weapon be 229 (or new max after 1.5) and be able to unlock your talents.  Then, you can use ANY GS backup weapon, which makes unlocking the talents easier.  Yeah, your toon's GS will be less than the cap, but having 6 talents on a weapon is beast and doing it this way can allow you do get all six without having to shuffle your stats to suit your weapon talents.

Toon 2: 4 pc Tactician's Authority with two HE pieces - For this toon, I designed her to be a skill-based support toon.  She has decent toughness, but she's designed more for electronics and skill points to offer.  Typically she'll run some combo of smart cover, pulse, booster shot, or overdose.  I don't generally run a healing station, but if the group wants it, she's more than capable of running a decent healer.  For weapons, despite being a support toon, she's got some beast toys.  She's usually running a 229 military G36 with deadly/brutal/focused and a 229 PP-19 with dominant/swift/hurried.  Occasionally I'll swap out the PP-19 for either a 229 BM M60 E6 with unforgiving/sustained/brutal or her trusty 229 military M870 with swift/brutal/deadly.  Originally this toon was a 4 pc Lone Star build that ran with 3 shottys, primary M870, secondary "sausage" (SASG), and a double barrel sawed off for the the sidearm.  The tri-shotty set was entertaining and worked well in the confines of the UG, but was mediocre at best in LZ and DZ play.  While this was my second toon, she has recently become my favorite.

Toon 3: 4 pc Reclaimer with two HE pieces - This toon came out of two-fold need: I needed a mule because I was running out of space in my stash (didn't know it was going from 70 to 150 in 1.5 yet) and because I wanted to see if all the loots I've collected from 1.4 could be used to make a decent build.  I've played a couple times with players running 4x RC in UG and really liked the fact that all players got any of the consumables that player used and that as long as that player ran them you didn't have to worry about running out of them, so I decided to make my own.  The two other guys that I regularly run with don't usually run support toons and one of the guys has run UG with me when there was a player running 4x RC and he thought they were awesome too.  This toon runs a 229 tactical ACR and 229 navy MP5, because they were the best I could pull from my stash, other toons, or buy with the 3M credits my 1st toon had.  I just hit 30 with this toon yesterday and managed to get the beginning gear in place before I was done for the night, so I really haven't tested the build yet.  The stats are all kinda of all over the place and need some work.  I've managed to recal armor onto the correct pieces (chest, pack, pads, holster) and gotten his armor mitigation to around 52-52%, but I can still recal the armor a little for higher values and I need to recal some of the stats on the non-armor pieces as well as work on some of the weapon talents.

Aside from these three toons, I've considered running toons with the following builds:

3x final measure/3x firecrest

3x predator's mark/3x tactician's authority

3x hunter's faith/3x tactician's authority

3x final measure/3x tactician's authority

However, most of those were pre-1.4 (with the exception of the 3rd one), so I'm not sure the benefits I was going for would be the same after the updates in 1.4.  On top of that, there are now some really solid HE pieces (vigorous chest, specialized pack, savage gloves to name a few) that are great to pair with a 3 or 4 pc set build.

Oh, just a little about my playstyle so you can see how I came to my builds: I'm not the best shot so I don't usually like DMR/sniper builds or builds centered around headshots, I play primarily PvE (so things like Banshee & Nomad aren't really my thing), I'm a casual gamer so I don't min-max the crap out of my builds (although I think I know what I'd need to do for that), and I'm a hoarder so I'd try to keep almost 1 of everything, even if I don't think I'll ever use it.

I play pve and do pvp. I'm just looking for the right sets and some good guns. I'm running a military G36 and a First Wave M1A

Military G36 is probably one of the best ARs, IMO.  Even if you get 1 talent that's questionable, it can usually put the other ARs to shame.  My second favorite would be the tactical MK16.  It's laser accurate and hits hard.  The LVOA-C is a solid 3rd - it has a high ROF like an SMG, but it hits a little harder and has a longer range than an SMGs.

Where can I get the LVOA-C
I have only gotten one in a drop a LONG time ago, which is why my 1st toon has a 204 one.  That being said, keep an eye on the Advanced Weapons Vendor in the BoO,  and the vendors in the Terminal, TOC, and DZ safe houses.  The stock in all of those locations rotate and there's usually YouTube videos that list what all the vendors are selling after the weekly reset.  If you can't find one at a vendor, there's always drops, field proficiency caches, UG caches, you can buy gold caches at the vendors (usually about 200K regular credits), and if you're a season pass owner there's the bi-monthly LZ supply drops that net you 3 items and there's usually at least 1 weapon (guaranteed??) in each supply drop.

What sets do you have? Are you at 229?

Good sets for builds..

Predator's Mask

Hunters Faith

Alpha Bridge

Firecrest

And Strikers and Sentry never really go out of style., despite the changes.

Edit:

And MA1 is fairly nerfed now. Maybe replace it with a M60, PP15, or SASG are all good pve weapons. If you like the marksmen then maybe the mk17.

I'm currently a fan of the SVD for a DMR.  It might not be the top sniper, but when things go sideways you can use it as a semi-auto rifle and kick some ass no-scope style.

1) At 229, make sure you're now running in World Tier 5.

2) Are you a good shot? Not being funny but if you want to run with a sniper primary you need to not only be able to get that first shot in but the next 5+ shots need to count as well. Too many times I play alongside "snipers" who think spamming the trigger works with that type of build.

3) Do you Tank? I don't mean face-hugging the enemy either (I hate that and its not the way to play the game! Too many people running thinking just high DPS = survivable) Tanking means being able to generate Aggro not just soak damage. Then of course you have choice of Tank-DPS or Tank-Support. I used to run as Tank-Support but as I play now alongside a shield user I've moved to Tank-DPS. Ideally he should be the Tank-Support (using shield to soak damage and being in the open generating Aggro) but he can't DPS like that.

Currently any non-tanking build isn't feasible unless you group all the time, especially as there isn't any hot-swap button for gear sets.

At the moment Primary AR's seem best and most adaptable. G36's are dropping quite well in UG runs and if you can run some Survival stints you'll soon have lots to choose from.

What upsets me a little about this game is that there are some really amazing Group based builds possible which don't get used. The "perfect" team of four can be made but due to the games 50/50 focus on solo play and no ability to add pre-sets to the UI we don't use them.

You can have that pure DPS (Magic user) build with very high DPS and good Electronics to pulse constantly, or the person with TA who's very high Toughness but also high electronics to buff his team and the different versions of the Tank from the Paladin-Tank (high tough, high electronics with Defib & Support station) or Warrior-Tank/Aggro Manager (high DPS & Very High toughness) with turret, mine, grenades and weapon mods to increase aggro.

You just don't see them that often unfortunately and it makes me sad.

I think part of the reason for that is because they don't want players to be "pigeon-holed" into set roles or classes.  The benefit of having very fluid toons means that there aren't role players and becuase their aren't role players they haven't built a system to accommodate them.

Guess so but .. I miss my Pala-Tank....

Yeah, there are days when I wish there were dedicated roles like other MMOs, but then there are days that I'm glad there aren't.  That being said, I now have 3 lvl 30 toons, so I'd be ok either way because I could spec a tank, a DPS, and a healer/support.
