I think the killer with this one is the need to actually land the killing blow (shot) for it to count.
This means running in powerful groups can make it quite hard. You burn one down and reload and someone shotguns them from close range and the hunter is dead... Hunters are fairly tough so going after them solo whilst in a group can be difficult if you don't have a high damage build.
I tend to run underground with the following
- Nomad: Can take an axe hit from the hunters without going down. Starts with 1.5x standard heath. Chance of sig skill auto available if running solo.
- Sentries: Just a good damage dealer.
- Reclaimer: If the team is a bit week and the shock directives activated (immu stations help massively) and sticky bomb can do some good damage.
My damage dealers have around 7k firearms. I like Firecrest but I put a bit on Electronics to strengthen the turret which takes away from Firearms. My sets are maxed but not fine tuned so as long as your sets are not terrible it should be doable, especially on lower difficulties.
Underground is by far the best source for Hunters I have seen but how best to farm ...
Some ideas;
- Run normal difficulty solo and cycle 1 phase as quickly as possible. Hunters are much weaker (yes they do appear). Cut scenes may slow things down though.
- Multi phase can get more randoms to join and some stay for cycling but once the Hunters are there you wont see again (possibly - see below).
- In groups, let the team burn them down then steal the kill. This is an arse move though. Other people in the team are probably looking for Hunter kills as well.
- Possibly change world tier down to make it even easier. Have not tried this so do not know at which level they stop registering..
Running multiple phases has a higher chance of getting hunters per mission (3 phases after all) but once they appear you will not see another group until you start a new mission. Now this may not be 100% true as by changing leader after the Hunters came used to give a chance they would appear again in another phase but I have not confirmed this is still possible.
Learn the set sections that make up the underground. If there is a bit of a delay, move to the best spot for cover and being able to spot, tag and kill the hunters. If the nav point comes up then no issue, move on. I have been taken down by standing next to a door a Hunter came out of so be wary of closed doors etc. Work to limit the angles of exposure as much as possible and put down the turrets, health stations as once they arrive your skills will be blocked.
If you go to cover whilst there is a pause after killing the last enemy, the smarter people in the team will take the hint and also prepare. If they don't you may be in for a hell of a battle or a loss :37_disappointed: .
Whilst I usually win out against the Hunters, I do go down and sometimes fail completely. Luck and stupidity help and hinder in equal measure :6_smile: .
As always, happy to team up with anyone reading this. If you see me on-line and just join me. Let me know you are coming from here and I will be happy to run a bit, time permitting. What I will not do is run missions with other people just sitting there to collect the rewards.
Happy massacring...
