Secondary weapons

So I think we almost universally agree that an SMG, whether it be vector or midas, is generally going to be the go to primary gun.  My question as I begin saving up credits to upgrade my secondary to a HE weapon is what do you guys run as a secondary and why?  Right now I use a superior version of the M1A and that seems to work pretty well but if I'm going to drop a lot of credits on a secondary what is the best bang for my buck?

My Midas is my secondary actually. Cadueces AR is my primary, but I hold no distinction. Doesn't matter to me which one I have in my hand when I get contact. Instead of reliading, I just swap weapons.

I use an Assault Rifle as my primary (Black Market AK) and a Shotgun (Military M870) as my secondary. However I find myself using my shotgun alot of the time

I've got a superior AUG as my primary and SOCOM M1A as my secondary. I've tried using a shotgun but it doesn't really fit my style.

Yeah. I have a HE P90 or whatever and it took me 9 rounds to take out an elite. To calculate that into seconds....it took too damn long for me to kill the guy.

I'm still using a superior SCAR-H marksmen because I haven't found anything better..any suggestions? Are there blueprints somewhere for a good high rof sniper?

I tend to use my Vector as my secondary and run around with a marksman as my primary because it fits my play style a lot better. I have tried using shotguns, LMGs, and Assault Rifles but always go back to a marksman. I guess in the end it all depends on your play style really. I did pick up the HE Black Market AK Assault Rifle a few days ago and its pretty nice.

Im using a firstwave m1a. Its the best marksman out there imo. Its superior aswell. Ive not seen any blueprints for one and dont know if a highend version of that gun exists.

I have yet to see a HE M1A. Don't know of anyone  who has at this point. But IMO. M1A is by far the best sniper rifle. Can't wait till a named version is released!!!!

Really depends on your style of play I guess. But tbh. I LOVE my sniper rifles. But I have found my self in far more close combat situations in the end game then far combat. I agree with @C2L3W1. I roll with my SMG and AR and just swap guns instead of reload when I am melting a NPC. But that being said. Really if you want to be good at the game. You need a excellent AR, SMG, and marksman rifle. Shotgun I have found to be the most useless gun in the game. Literally have given every type a shot. They are trash until they get fixed. The enemy can kill you one shot two at most. Yet you can't kill a level 32 elite in 2 shots with ANY shotgun even if your were to hold it an inch from their head. The shotgun needs a serious update IMO.
