I was mostly a sports gamer most of my life then took a long hiatus from gaming all together until the end of last year.  When I saw The Division for the first time, I thought it looked amazing and I just knew I had to get it.  Then I started playing the beta and was overwhelmed.  Fortunately with a little help from some friends, I was able to get the basics down and have really grown to love what this game can be, but it's still very intimidating.  There is so much you can do between upgrading your character, weapons, gear, crafting, and who knows what else.  Do any of you have suggestions on how to really learn this type game?  Is there a good beginner strategy or do I just have to go with trial and error?

Maybe play some other third person shooters to prepare yourself. Mass Effect or Gears of War could get you goin.

I've been playing a little bit of Gears Ultimate Edition, but the cover system of the Division Beta is so much better to me that every time I play it, I wish I was playing The Division! lol  The game play itself isn't my concern, it's all the extra customization and RPG elements because I've never played that type of game before.

Hey Carpe.

I would recommend trying to play some Ghost Recon: Phantoms our something similar. It's not too different from the cover and shooting mechanics used in The Division. But that's probably also because that was made by Ubisoft as well. But as that is not really a concern, there's not really a good way to prepare for the RPG and customization element's of it. As it's really unlike any other game ever realised.

Good luck out there in the Open Beta!

Yeah, I have a feeling I'm just gonna have to feel my way through it. I'm excited to try, just know I'll make some mistakes along the way.

@CarpeAdam79 I suggest checking out @Boomslangg's Youtube Channel,  as well as @arreksgaming, Open World Games & MarcoStyles. For Podcasts Listen to at least the last 2 episodes of Rogue Agent Radio (http://bit.ly/RARFORUM). There are also some other great podcast on this site as well but I have not had the time to dive into every single one of them. Also there should be some "directions" that come with the beta on how to play. With that being said there are a lot of threads on this site that you can really glean off of. If you are playing on Xbox I am more than willing to help you out GT: Chewyonionz

Oh yeah I listen to all of the podcasts on this forum regularly and follow them on Twitter. I am trying to gather as much knowledge as I can and I've already learned quite a bit. The consumables for instance.
