Heavy Magazine Weapon Mod?

Hey guys,  firstly apologies if this is posted in the wrong place.

I have a question re the magazine mods. I noticed that extended mags tend to increase my overall dps.  I crafter a heavy mag today and noticed that this increased my weapons RPM but lowered my overall DPS.

This don't seem to make sense,  the only thing I can think of is that the extra rounds in the magazine add to the DPS.

Just confused as more rounds per min would seem to suggest a higher damage output.

Any one have any advice about this?

Thanks in advance peeps :)

For me it doesn't make sense that you say the RPM came down. Like g1nt3r said, more rounds means more DPS. Did the crafting not perhaps gave it a negative perk like a longer reload time or something which can explain the lower RPM?

@Bo3sman I probably didn't explain myself too well

The extended magazine increased my guns DPS

The heavy magazine didn't increase my DPS but did increase my Rounds per minute.

I am wondering what would be the benefit of adding a heavy magazine over the extended magazine. Surely its got to be DPS all the way?

At first I though a higher Rate of fire would have meant a higher DPS as your able to get rounds down range a lot faster. thinking while I am typing maybe a higher RPM increases the guns suppression effects?

LOL ok now I understand. Yes that doesn't make sense because I'm thinking exactly the same. More rounds more DPS. Hmm. Will look around. Maybe someone else also asked this question somewhere else.

A larger Mag gives a DPS increase as you can fire for longer before a reload; this a direct increase in DPS, I higher RPM (rounds per minute) as a indirect in crease in DPS as you said you can chuck more rounds down range and as long as all teh rounds hit the target increase; however this means you will reload more often and then there is the mechanics that cause yours weapon to kick and shift (weapon lift); this means that you will likely be of target more often thusly reducing your over all DPS directly. RPM is good for heavy weapons to give a surpression rather then a DPS increase.

Thanks Ragingdragon. That actually makes a lot of sense. And a higher rate on a LMG will always help.
