So, @Voyager42 and I were chatting the other week about beer. I love it and, being English, consider myself very lucky to live so close to many top breweries. Anyway,  picked up thus stuff an Amazon; its from a small brewery in California. It's not bad.

Post your favourites and recommendations.

Bell's Oberon - it's a Michigan beer only sold during the summer

Erdinger - it's a German Hefeweizen that's fantastic and doesn't have the aftertaste that most American domestics have

(Oh well, double post.)

If you're talking local beers, we have Young Henry's in Sydney. They have a nice pale ale and a dark(ish. i.e. not stout) hop.

Also, there's James Esquire. Recommend their golden ale or amber ale. They're fairly main stream (own by a multinat, now), though still considered a craft beer.

The non craft aussie beer recommendation would be James Boags, a tassie beer.

What's Victoria Bitter like? I'm assuming it's mass-produced sewer water and I see they sponsor a lot of sports teams in Oz. I think they sponsored your cricketers' shirts for a while.

On another note this tends to be my 'go to' beer of choice if I can find it. It's a mainstream ale but is very popular during the summer months.

Imho VB is the best of the sewer waters. Yes it is mass produce. Back in the day each Australian state had their own typical "pub" beer. E. g. VB in Victoria, Tooheys in NSW, XXX (choke gargle gasp) in Queensland. Though now it is mixed, much to the annoyance of the beer companies.

Moosehead, Heineken, Corona, Switchback (a local favorite), you name it and I've probably had it.  From HE beers to craft brews, from bottom of the barrel dreck to warm Natty Ice...I've had it all.

BUT! Coming up on two years sober and never going back  :3_grin:

Ah, congrats. Not sure off the difference s of American beer to elsewhere. I've had Budweiser, tho the Americans I've met don't hold it up as the shining light of brewers.

Budweiser is the self-proclaimed "King of Beers."  In truth, it's anything but.  In my area of the states most folks like local brews, which can be pretty hit or miss.  I was always a mainstream kind of guy, with the exceptions of Switchback and Moosehead (Moosehead being a Canadian brewery).

The good news about giving up drinking, though?  The wife doesn't mind I'm gaming all night, as long as it keeps me from drinking  :11_blush:

Ah, my wife is less supportive lol.. it's a point of contention, esp when it means going to bed at 3 am. Lol. ( for my timezone it actually rocks as a pug'er)
