I'm pinned down behind a tiny concrete barrier that's being riddled with bullets. Dust and chunks of debris are raining down on my head and I know that if I peek over this wall I'm as good as dead. I have no choice but to fire blindly in the general direction of the gang of escaped prisoners. My squad mate has reached cover no more than twenty-five meters away, but he's down and bleeding out. The fool is going to get us both killed because he decided to go rogue without letting me know first. All because he wanted some pistol holster he saw the guy wearing. I swear I need to find a better guy to watch my back. I never know when the bastard might turn on me.
We took down the elite members of the other squad, but we didn't escape completely unharmed. I've used everything in every med kit I had, but I'm still not nearly back to 100% and I'm afraid I'm going to end up being killed by one of these untrained, pathetic, bully-boy gang members. One thing is for sure though, my squad mate won't last another minute. I have to get to him quickly. I have to go for it even if he is kind of a piece of shit, I don't break promises.
This messed up world has convinced me that there isn't anyone up there watching out for any of us, but I swear I almost changed my mind when the sky suddenly darkened and a howling wind turned the lightly falling snow into a whirling fog-like blanket that turned visibility to almost nothing. I think I have a chance. I only have about twelve bullets in my assault rifle and my shotgun is worthless at this range, but my old reliable pistol has enough bullets to last a long long time, I swear it seems like I have infinite ammo or something. I'm going for it.
I swear I can almost feel the bullets whizzing by my head. I definitely did feel one hit my body armor. Thank god the gang leader we killed earlier had this wonderful vest. If I had still been wearing my old one I'd be dead right now. One of the gang members cried out in pain. I wish I could claim it was my skill from all the training that allowed me to take him down, but honestly I'm just firing kind of wildly as I rush for the cover my squad mate is behind.
When I make it and help him back on his feet the relief is intense. He might be a bastard, but he's also one of the best medics I've ever seen and his skill with that medical technology that I honestly don't understand makes me feel better almost immediately... the relief is very short lived however. The gang of thugs suddenly gets lit up from multiple directions. The half dozen Division fighters haven't come to rescue us though. They were just removing an insignificant obstacle to their true target. Us. Thanks to this jackass every agent of the Division knows what we've done. And there is a bounty on our heads that everyone wants to collect. I hope this asshole likes his little holster. I have a feeling it won't be in his possession much longer.
The only question now is can I evade the other agents of the Division until this all blows over?
Only one way to find out....
