I've had this problem. get a identical gun with higher damage, but even with the same attachments the gun has a lower DPS. (literally both first wave m1as, one with higher DMG, but lower DPS.)

I decided to go with the gloves which gave me the "lower" DPS on the inventory screen and I was actually hitting for more damage in actual combat than with the gloves which gave the "higher" DPS.

Well heres the thing. Firearms isnt everything in this game.

First of all, the gloves doesnt have the same type of major attributes. One gives critical hit damage, the other gives critical hit chance. Theres a difference.

Also the Cunning talent is really fucked up. It gives you 9% increased critical hit chance ONLY when your magazine is full! (On the first bullet)

Which means if you go check your dps when your magazine is full the dps showing is higher than if you shoot one bullet out of your magazine. Check it out yourself. The dps that you get when the magazine isnt full is the real dps. 1 bullet with increased critical hit chance doesnt do anything.

So yeah, the gloves with the talent Savage is clearly best here. Reroll the pistol damage into critical hit chance or assault rifle damage and you got some really good gloves.

It also depends on what weapon talents you get on your gun, aswell as headshot damage %.

Ah right, that makes a bit more sense!

I didn't think DPS would take into account crit chance as it isn't a guaranteed factor. You would think the DPS would be the base damage you would do without critical hits and non permanent buffs etc.
