What specifically are you looking for?

Before anything just get to level 40. Don't worry about gear to much going through this as all your gear as you progress to level 40 is useless to you once you get to level 40.

Joining active clans help you progress.

After you hit level 40 build these or a close approximation of these until you get the exotics with rolls you like:

DPS build, Striker - (

)
and
Skill build (

)

These will get you through most content.
