Hi all. This is my 1st posting. Question about Survival DLC. Do I need to complete the main game or be at a certain level before I can play the Survival DLC? I would appreciate any help!

Hi all. This is my 1st posting. Question about Survival DLC. Do I need to complete the main game or be at a certain level before I can play the Survival DLC? I would appreciate any help!
Survival is normalized (everyone starts at the same starting point - crap gear, crap pistol), so the only requirement is that you be able to access the Base of Operations (BoO), which opens up usually around level 4 (once you leave Brooklyn and reach the mainland).  Once you open the BoO, the access point for Survival is in the Terminal, which is the middle level (below the main ground level of the BoO and above the stairs to Underground).

As for really playing the main game before playing Survival, you don't really have to beat the game, as Survival kind of takes place outside of the main story.  Aside from understanding the main premise of the game (dollar flu, many people dead/dying, factions take over, etc.), you can jump right into Survival after hitting the BoO, if you like.

DeadSockPuppet - thank you for the detailed reply. I'm at level 7 now and have accessed the BAO so I may purchase the survival DLC. I'm really enjoying the Division and am engrossed in the premise, especially the stories behind the main premise. But....from what I've read, I'm making it difficult for myself as I prefer playing solo, which I know would make going to the DZ probably impossible...dunno.

I play solo all the time.  There is tons of PvE content to do.  And no I have not been to the dark zone yet.  I may check it out someday, but I see no need at this point.  I am having a blast just running around killing randoms when I don't have mission time and doing daily's when I have the time.

For me, a mostly solo non-PvP player, I am having a gas.  I have two agents lvl 30/256 and 40+ gear set pieces.

You will enjoy this game for a long long time.

I agree 100%......I did one instance of matchmaking in Brooklyn when I was having trouble on the very last part of the precinct assault.  Since then it's all been solo. I really am engrossed in just walking around listening to often-emotional voicemails, helping those who are sick and sneaking up on baddies. I've managed to take down multiple cleaners as I have a scoped sniper rifle and shoot their tanks. Very satisfying!

I am so damn impressed with the atmosphere in TD, especially when it turns foggy and is snowing.  It has a very real look and feel to it. I wish there was a console command that would allow changing the weather or at least making snowstorms much longer, like you can do in Skyrim and Fallout 4.

@GaryBB you're welcome on the reply, good to hear the the info is useful.  I'm also glad to hear that you're enjoying the game and the lore that comes with it.  The first time you play through the story missions is really quite epic.  Because you're really getting into it, I STRONGLY suggest you keep playing solo or only play with someone that has only played up to where you're at.  Most people at this point are probably powering through an alt (2nd, 3rd or 4th toon) and won't allow you the time to really immerse yourself in the story or they'll intentionally or unintentionally ruin and spoil parts you haven't hit yet.

The DZ is a different story when you're sub-30.  It feels more balanced and people tend to be on a more even level.  However, to have the best experience, you want to make sure you're on the top of a level tier and not in the middle or bottom.  The tiers are as follows:

* Levels 1-14

* Levels 15-19

* Levels 20-24

* Levels 25-29

At lvl 7, you'll probably get murdered in the DZ.  If you want to give it a try, wait until you hit lvl 14 in the game and then head in.  You'll be better geared and will be at the top of the first tier so you should fare better.  One thing to note, the higher north into the DZ you go, the harder it gets (DZ01 is easiest in the south and DZ06 is harderst in the north).

One last comment, if you like the snow storms, enjoy the weather in Survival.  Brings a completely different experience to the game.

Thanks again....your comments are really appreciated!   I've been considering getting Survival and am also wondering this;  since I'm only at level 7, what DLC (other than Survival) would suit someone who prefers doing solo. I really like going it alone (even tho I keep reading how much more difficult that is) because I am engrossed in the incredible atmosphere, sounds and feeling...yeah, perhaps I'm a dork but that's how I like to play TD.  So....which DLC do you think might suit my play style best?

I'm glad the comments are helpful.  As for DLS, Survival is really the only solo DLC.

Last Stand 8v8 multiplayer that's a combo of PvE and PvP.  It's rather fun and addictive, but it's definitely not something that can be done solo.  You can go into it with up to 4 players in a group and you'll be paired with another group of 4 (ultimately you end up with 2 4-player squads).  If you go in with less than 4, you'll be paired up with randoms to round out your 4 and then paired up with a second team of 4.

Ungetground, on the other hand, is all PvE and can be played solo.  However, it's much more enjoyable when played in a group. Also, when you start adding more difficult (additional phases and directives) it can become rather difficult for the average player.  And while you can say you'll just avoid the hardest versions, that means you get lesser (and usually useless) rewards which makes the game mode not worth playing, unless you're just looking for the experience.

My suggestion would be to continue playing the main game and possibly pick up Surviaval if you're really looking for something different.

I guess if one profile is 1-30/0-256 the loot/caches when extracting is adjusted to that profiles level..?

Or is all loot dropped 256/30 based ?

I can't remember what the level the caches are depends on.   I've played very little Survival and have yet to extract.  Also, I was level 30, GS 256 when I played Survival, so all my gear rewards were 256.  I would guess they would be based off your character level (1-29) and your GS once you hit lvl 30.  I checked a bunch of sources online and couldn't determine a more definite answer than this.
