Binary (@BinaryNumb on Twitter) from DZR posted up this weekend that DZR is looking for new content creators and that they're willing to help get people set up for new podcasts and content creation.  With that post, @DasOttoman and I started batting around ideas on Twitter about different topics for a cast.  Since Das has line 1800+ hrs in Division, another Division cast would probably be the option.

One of the ideas I thought of was a "Division Stories" cast that would cover different agents, their toon backgrounds, the toon's build and possibly some community stories.  The idea would be that it would expand on some of the segments that other Division casts have.

After listening to the Special Episode of DZR Engage, Men Gone Rogue, the idea for a Division for Dummies was added to the mix.  The panelists on the cast got into a heated discussion about meta and builds, but ended up agreeing that many players don't understand major and minor stats on gear, that they run Frankenstein builds because they increase their DPS or some other random stat they like and some don't even know or understand what recalibration is.

Taking all of the above together, I thought a Division for Dummies cast would be a great idea.  Veteran players that understand the game could discuss the basics (weapon talents, how sets work, toon stats, gear stats, recalibration, etc.) in a way to enlighten & encourage newer players playing the game.  It would be a great way to help better inform the community and give back to players that need help - something really important to DZR and others in this community.

So, TL:DR, I was wondering if anyone thinks this is a good idea and worth pursuing?  I'm not sue if this is something that I have time for, but I might consider it if there was decent interest in it.  Even if I do have the time, I'm not sure I'd be the best one to host.  While I try to be helpful here, I have no experience casting or creating content beyond my "slapdash" Twitch videos.

At this point, what's everyone's thoughts?  I'll probably post a poll on Twitter to try and get some feedback.

Love it, love the whole idea. So I've been trying to get some original content out of these forums since the beginning. I'd very much like for this to be a part of this site, I would host it (when I say host I mean host the show here on the server, not literally be the host) and promote the shit out of it with our 13k+ follower twitter account.

So far, after 1 day (6 left), the Twitter poll has 16 yes and 4 no votes.  I'll see how things go over the rest of the week.

That's definitely good to hear.  DZR is looking to host new shows, but they have The Armory already and it's a similar show.  Besides, it would be really nice to have an official DivisionForums.com podcast.  All of the support network is already in place, just need the host(s) and cast.

As I said, we'll have to see how the idea goes on Twitter.  I'm not necessarily going to have the time, but it sounds like a 1hr show takes about 5hrs to create a week, according to Binary.   My biggest concerns are that I don't really have equipment for podcasting (although @DasOttoman thinks this can worked around) nor do I have experience with audio editing that most shows need.

However, just in case this thing gets legs, I've started getting my ducks in a row.  I've created a YouTube account and downloaded GIMP on my work computer so I can start to tinker with some logos and banners for my Twitter & YouTube accounts.  I've also started brainstorming ideas for show names and then there's a show logo and all that crap.

Again, this may go nowhere, but I've been meaning to create some the graphics and get on YouTube anyway.

Well let me know if you need help with anything, I can be on the show, I'm not sure I'm charismatic enough to be the host though. Also I think it would be cool if we also recorded video. So like we can use skype to do the podcast and then we can also record video. You can pick up a Blue Snowball for like $50, works pretty well, I have one and have used it to be on a couple podcasts myself.

That's good to know and I'd like to do Skype or something for video if I end up running a cast.  For the couple episodes of the original DZR and the SotG that I've watched, they're that much more entertaining than just the audio.  It would probably be worth exploring broadcasting it on a Twitch channel specific to the show, to our forums or to possibly one or more of the hosts so there's an option for live chat.  SotG and DWR/IFTW do that and I really like being able to ask questions, make comments and interact with the cast.  That being said, if you do that you really don't have to edit the cast, because it's run live.

I'm down for live. We'd just have to have prepared talking points so there's no quiet spaces.

Yeah, either way a set of show notes are needed.  They'd probably need to be a little more fleshed out/outlined if the show  was live, possibily start with recording only and see how it goes.

Add me on skype, should be  able to find me via email g1nt3r@thedivisionforums.com

As the N00B here, I would be glad to help.  I think this is a grand idea.  There is so much I still do not understand about this game.

This would be the exact idea behind it.  Possibly put a survey out 2 weeks in advance with possible future cast topics, run it for a week and then make the notes and do the cast in the week after the survey closes.

So many thoughts...

So, my 7 day Twitter poll closed with only 20 votes, but it ended up with 75% (16 votes) for a "Division for Dummies" cast.  I only have about 130 followers (and not all are Division players) so I guess that's not a bad sample.  Between that and the recent interest here on the forums, seems like this might be a good idea.

Based on that, I guess the next step is to start fleshing out some details and see if the time commitment can be met.  As I originally mentioned, I'm not sure I'll be able to commit the time, but I'm still interested in the conversation.  @g1nt3r mentioned he would help with promoting on the forums and Twitter and @DasOttoman possibly had some interest in hosting or cohosting the cast, but anyone else interested in any part of the endeavor?

I've been thinking up ideas for a name for the podcast and have come up with a few:

Agent Bootcamp
Agent Combat Training (ACT)
Beginner's Division
Intelligence Annex
Next Wave Training

What's everyone's thoughts?

Lets do it. Write down some talking points, some questions that new agents would likely have and lets just get on the microphone and talk about it.

This is a great list.  I like the ideas especially the first two.

Agent Bootcamp - (I am assuming TD is not the gamer's first game)

  • game theory, what makes division different from other shooters
  • general world design
  • character creation
  • weapon/gear/mod discussion, what all the numbers mean
  • movement, radar, cover, climbing, map, selecting destination, fast travel
ACT

  • movement and cover both in and out of combat, including cover-to-cover movement
  • aiming (the reticle is always in the middle of the monitor  :1_grinning: )
  • effective blindfire
  • weapon uses by type, switching weapons, and why
  • use of turret, grenades, exp/fire bullets, explosive items in the terrain
  • healing (med kits, consumables, post combat)
Bootcamp would have made my experience with early parts of the game much more enjoyable.  And would have told me what to practice instead of just dying alot and wondering why.

ACT would have been very helpful once I started off setting up the Base of Operations.
