Obligatory Disclaimer: This is just a fun little post documenting my time as a (mostly) solo player. I've seen lots of posts on the board about how the game can't be played solo...well, bullcrap. I agree there are lots (and I mean lots) of issues with the game, but it's not unplayable...even if you are on your own.
Okay, here's my current build...behold the mediocrity:

Wow! That is so...not great...at all :3_grin: And yet, for right now, it serves me fine. Granted, having crit damage of 199% does help.
And now, my personal tips and tricks. Keep in mind, I'm not saying you're going to be soloing Incursions after reading this, just that you can absolutely have fun in the game.
PvE:
Stay five or more levels above the mission requirements/recommendations. This can be done by completing side missions, encounters, and collecting intel.
Collect EVERYTHING. If you pass by some fabric, take the extra ten seconds to grab it. If you see a civilian in need, help them and take the garbage they give you.
More XP is your friend. Get at least 70+ xp gain if possible. Same goes (perhaps without saying) for crit damage/chance.
Go slow and steady. You don't have a team backing you up, and your name probably isn't John Rambo, so don't go in guns blazing. Wait for the right chance to strike. I've had some extended sniper duels that felt like they took forever, and more than once I thought about just running in...don't do it!
Farm Hard missions. Once you've gotten to 30 and have a pretty good build, Hard mode missions should be a breeze. If you really get good, Challenging is doable as well. Just remember to stay ahead of the game's level expectations whenever possible.
DZ:
Survivor Link. Nuff said.
I'm not making this a PvP section because you'll probably want to avoid that as often as you can. So, with that in mind, my first PvP advice would be--avoid PvP as often as you can. Always have a pulse with added damage, and don't be afraid to use it often. You never know when someone's sneaking up behind you.
Extractions. Some feel these are almost impossible solo while I, being my rebellious self, think they're anything but. Again, you need patience. Call an extraction and find a good hiding spot, preferably where no one would think to look. Keep a low profile and do NOT rush in as soon as the chopper arrives. Wait until it's about 30 seconds until departure and throw a pulse. If you see four white outlines (or even two or three), exercise patience and haul ass. In the words of King Arthur, "RUN AWAY!!!" If it's only one, or better yet, totally clear...wait until 15 seconds before departure, throw survivor link, and run up. Tie up your stuff and immediately ready your weapon. If you timed this right, there should only be about 7 seconds until the chopper leaves, leaving no one any time to ambush.
Slow and steady. Noticing a theme? Patience is a virtue. I've gotten to rank 71 solo by getting in, and getting out, of the DZ as quickly as possible. For a while, all I did was enter DZ01 on the west side, kill the vets/elites in the subway, and get back out. I would then wait ten minutes, go back, and do it all over again. Soooo slow, but hey, it works.
The same XP rules apply in the DZ. Don't worry about that DZ XP stat. As of right now, I'm pretty sure that's crap.
And of course, if someone does engage you, you have two options. Fight or flight. I've done both. ...I will say there's nothing quite as satisfying as being attacked by rogues looking to pick on someone, and gunning them ALL down. Oooh that's satisfying.
That's it for now. Feel free to post any other solo tips, or call me on any BS I might have posted :-D
